If anyone else has or is considering doing this I'd be interested to know what they paid or were quoted. So far one place has quoted $350 which I thought was steep. I expected around $250 to $300.
But the 2nd place, a signwriter , was even worse $476!
A quick search would suggest the vinyl itself would only be around $50 retail.
Dazz has a quick scan of mates that owe him favours...

I can get you a lovely AUSCAM scheme if you happen to scan in my direction. :whistler:

Dazz, the parts / material is usually the cheap part of a job, the rest is for the experience / knowledge / workmanship and warranty provided by the installer.
You could buy the wrap and have a crack 👍

True. The only problem I'd have is the aerial, but I might just do that. Watch a few You tube vids and grab few pointers off @Glacius

I got quoted $60 for just the small part between roof and spoiler.

Cheers. That seems reasonable as it's a bit fiddly. If I had a Premium I would have probably considered doing that bit myself, but at $60 it's probably worth getting it done professionally. Seems a bit weird that when they designed the car from the ground up they didn't make the black spoiler part cover that whole area. :crazy2:

Should be able to pop the back off the headliner down and undo the bolt that fixes the aerial in position.
Ive done some vinyl work in the past and it is not hard, A heat gun and soapy water is your friend.
-
Have you defected?
-
No, it's simply a global Aussie export success story. :victory:

Cheers. I've done decals on 2 cars the soapy water certaily helps.

Just my 2c worth Dazz.
The car looks great as it is.
I reckon the black will detract from it.

Thanks Trevor, I value your opinion. It will extract from my wallet as well. :sweating: :crazy1:

When I get my new i40 I can guarantee I won't be doing vinyl anything.

The new one will have a different front and stuff than the original won't it?

Different front AND rear.
They'll be straight. :happydance:
-
Not to mention the steering wheel :D
Yes front, rear and wheels will be different. Not to mention the DCT auto. The suspension was supposed to have been worked over by the Australian team too, not that I had much of an issue with how the old one handled.
It's funny the good people at QBE will pay for everything....Except the CTP insurance on the registration. For that I have to pay $330.

Wasn't actually meaning quite that Trev, but good point!

Plus your excess I guess (how much was that?)
Will or did you get a refund on the remainder of the old rego?
-
No fault no excess :D
They get the wreck and the rego (which I'm not worried about, as I get 12 months with the new one :happydance:)
-
Win win. Looking forward to some photos. I really like the front on the newer model i40's
-
Sidenote, always put everything on the invoice...It seems they replace as per the invoice.
Because my invoice had a full tank of fuel on it.......So does the new one :happydance:
-
Update. I've decided not to do my roof with black vinyl. Finding other things to spend my money on. I think there is enough black on the car as it is. Still happy I got the wheels done. :victory: :happydance:

Totally agree, that small section between the glass roof and and the black spoiler is an eyesore, especially against white. It wasn't too hard to wrap myself, just needed some attention to the edges. Just saved myself $60 :victory:

$60... for something th at should have been done at factory. They go to the trouble of using a black antenna but not the boot strip... :whistler: :fum:

$60 is cheap enough. It's a glass roof not a vinyl wrapped roof... Looks good though! :victory:
