Title: Cabin Air Filter - REPCO Rant
Post by: tw2005 on December 26, 2017, 00:38:21
Cabin Air Filter - REPCO Rant.

SO most places have the usual Boxing Day clearances and Repco , Supercheap, Autobarn are no different.

I'm after a cabin air filter RCA240P(FD i30). Hunt around and you can get one under $30 but generally close to $40.

REPCO, quoted me $78. Don't worry with today's 30% off it's still more than $20 more expensive than the cheapest.

I bet a Genuine would be round the same price. :faint:

$36 delivered on eBay:  :link: Ryco Cabin Air Pollen Filter RCA240P for Hyundai i30 1.6 CRDi FD 2.0 FD 07-12 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ryco-Cabin-Air-Pollen-Filter-RCA240P-for-Hyundai-i30-1-6-CRDi-FD-2-0-FD-07-12/131941675776?hash=item1eb8563300:g:Ww4AAOSwridaIs~k)

With this and Veale / Bursons around with FAR better pricing and service, there's no reason to ever buy parts from Superepcobarn.

Called them today to see if they were interested in price matching a pair of KYB shocks. No joy there. SO this was a different branch, rechecked the cabin filters. REPCO $33 RYCO $51

here's the interesting bit. When they had 30% off all parts last week I was told $70 and $51 with the discount. Yet this week no discount and same price :snigger:

No doubt a mistake if the ACCC were to ask....

And guess what people, today was yet another REPCO flash your badge 30% off.

and guess what todays prices were for these filters?

Yep, RYCO had again jumped from $51 to 78 or was that 82? The guy was having trouble reading the screen and the REPCO, yep up from $33 to $38

Now after we've marked up, you get the whopping 30% off.

Amazing

To state the bleedin' obvious, they can get in big trouble if proven to be doing that.  :head_butt:

Sure can.
Report them to ACCC. A simple email stating the figures as above will get them on the case. They particularly like to snap up high profile companies to boost their reputation.
ACCC can go in anywhere, anytime and demand 3 months of invoices, which will give them all the evidence they need.
Honestly, I'm amazed a company that size would be doing that in this day and age.

Well of course this my tainted version and there some variables because we're talking 3 branches now. There's a chance one of these is marking down to remain competitive but I refuse to accept the $80 price tag is normal

Fitted the Ultra High Performance Made in China REPCO branded RCF699 Cabin Air Filter today.

Went in eventually , had trouble getting it to seat flush. Of course the OEM item went in and out no fitment issues at all.

205 000k , can't confirm age of this item but OEM out of "Mums Taxi"

They look just like mine, which are still originally fitted OEM. However, I've given them a thorough vacuum and brushing to as-new condition. :goodjob:

Knowing you, you probably factored the power used by the vaccuum into your budget...  :snigger:

I was thinking along the lines of he grabbed some kleenex and overlayed it on top. Voila!, new element. Could even try some of those eucalyptus ones for a refresh

It certainly crossed my mind that dropping some crystals onto these filters would be the most effective way to do the air freshener thing without some unsightly aftermarket add-on in the car.

My previously very successful implementation of a scent was to get bargain-priced Glade and pop it into one of the drink holders - a perfect fit for around a dollar, adjustable opening and lasts for yonks. :victory:

@The Gonz

I don't know what magic brush you have but this is as good as I can do.

Brushed, blown, washed, rinsed, bleach, carpet cleaner , rinsed and dried. And no not smelling fresh like a daisy.

EVen tried this on it

Don't get too excited, mate. If I pulled mine out again, they'd just look like yours. The brushing was with a thin brush to get the dry leaf pieces out or to loosen them so the vacuum nozzle, run end-to-end inside each fold, could pick them up.

Now you tell me.  :P I dove 2 feet into the rubbish bin to extract these expecting a miracle :blubber:

I was more than happy with the outcome. They give no bad smells. Good as new to me.

If you really want to do better filtering than just replacing with new, why not mod the old ones with carburettor filter foam and a spray mist of oil? That's technically better already.

Yeah, but the mrs will look like she's been pushing a 2 stroke around if she goes max Air with the oil mist.

Briggs & Stratton  Got it! :goodjob2:
