put a dash mat on it today!!! but i hate those stick on velcro tabs they give you so i kinda just pushed it back till it was jammed well not jammed but wedged between the windscreen and dash! looks good im just a little worried if the passanger airbag goes off... it covers it but it does seem to have slots in the carpet so it can rip off above the airbag, its also got a cover over the top box thingo... meh its not like i use it!

i also put a sticker on it!! a fox racing one FTW i couldnt find the proper FOX head sticker so this one will have to do... for now hahaha

Post by: mantaray on June 06, 2010, 02:50:56
For the dash mat, instead of the velcro pads , I just went to a $2 store and got some anti slip matting and cut a few pieces to put under the mat, works a treat.

operation de-badge is complete!!! on the i30 anyway

the maxima isnt looking so well, at some stage the maxima has had a very slight rub on the rear left hand quarter and for some reason they did the clear on the boot when it was repaired, no problem you say... well normally yes

the MAXIMA and Ti badge came off perfectly fine... just like the i30, hyundai and CRDi ones did on the i30 just because they are 6 years old the double sided tape was hard to remove... but the nissan badge in the center of the boot had been taped up and sprayed around instead of being removed and re-applied

so i was stuck, i thought i would have to put a new badge on, but i had a idea SANDPAPER 2000 grade lol so i cearfully sanded the paint lines away polished that black paint VERY carefully and BINGO fixed its probably 80% gone... if i get annoyed with it ill get a new badge for it

the back of the i30 looks much nicer now! although i have left the hyundai symbol in the middle of the boot... i dont think its double side taped on... i have a funny feeling it has clips holding it in there

Pics like that from every member shows again and again what a good job hyundai has done. Supported further with nubmer of over half a million sold cars. In my town i can do a 15km trip and not to see atlest 5 of them

Wish you many happy kilometers!!

PS love the gauge!!

Post by: agentr31 on June 07, 2010, 11:16:00
thanks for the positive comments guys!!

ive really really grown to like this car over the last few weeks of owning it!! the only thing im dissapointed with is the support from the dealer i bought the car from... sales were perfect, infact they went above and beyond, very professional service in the sales team!!!

BUT as for the service/parts department side of things bloody awfull, from not having things as simple as oil and oil filters or even ANY accessory (mud flaps, dash mats, floor mats ect ect) in stock to damaging my car and now being awkward about fixing it... i feel very let down with them... i've had to go to another dealer 40km away to get parts for it...
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: mantaray on June 08, 2010, 01:34:13
have to agree they look better with badges removed on the rear, first thing I did( must thank Thumper for the idea). Have had same issues with dealers some are good for servicing, others better for parts-suppose it depends on the manager of the department.

yay the car is off getting tinted as we speak!! BONUS he said he could do it today!

but i have to do a major service on my maxima :( there is like $200 in parts alone good thing i can do it all myself
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on June 12, 2010, 09:58:42
got my car tinted today!!! very happy with it, its legal tinting i didnt go spastic and get darker... no point really it just makes it illegal

while i was servicing the maxima i tried on the wheels from it on the i30...

i kinda like my other car's wheels on it, but the offset is WAYY to tough for the poor little thing... comments? is white with black wheels good looking or just stupid?

nice pics agent!! what is the gauge on the second picture?
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on June 12, 2010, 12:38:43
nesher its a boost gauge!

nice!! i like it... BUT they definatly need to be in the correct offset, and i think they will need to be staggered as the front sits out miles futher than the back

so a back 15mm or so in to what those wheels have and a front that sits 20 - 25mm in will bring them rather flush with the gaurds!

BTW those wheels are back on the maxima :( if they fitted correctly i would have left them on there and bought something a bit better for the max... pitty but meh ill sort something out when i get sick of the hub caps and steel wheels
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!

yay i had the muffler removed today... it sounds a little louder, but not much aye. quite an interesting note to it with the cold air intake pipe removed haha

i had the exhaust guy make it so the original muffler can bolt back on, he put a flange on it and on the rear section

Nice rims and they are perfect on the black Maxima but personally i don't like them much on white. On the other hand, previewing some photos can't compare to live preview. If you think they are good then probably they are!

Here's a couple of alloy wheel configurators. Not so accurate, but you can have some fun:

Hey Agent31,
I'm in Wynnum, where did you get your i30 from, so's I know not to get it serviced there, hehe.
I wonder if there's some power to be had with a bigger exhaust system from the turbo back, usually is, but with such a long warranty, ?
Did you fit a boost gauge to yours, how did you fix it to the dash, and was there a bung on the aftercooler.
I noticed some of the European guys on here have mentioned a 6 spd manual on theirs.
Can you get cruise on the SX.
Hope u don't mind all the questions,
Matt.
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on July 10, 2010, 00:16:12
hey mat!!

i bought it from keystar motors... HOWEVER, once the dealer principal was contacted it was fixed within 24 hours, because the manager "forgot" and as a bonus i received a free oil and filter change!

yer you could go chasing horse power with a bigger exhaust but i dont think it will make massive differences... but you wont know until you do a dyno comparison! i wouuldn't worry about it affecting the warranty... its just an exhaust system, its not like your putting a  GT28RS turbo on the car LOL

the boost gauge fit up is written up "here (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,5919.0.html)"

we dont get a 6 speed that i know of... I'm no expert on the i30 :(

they did offer me cruise control at the dealer, I'm not sure if it was a factory fit or aftermarket as i declined it! i dont think there is much point in cruise control in a manual (previous car was manual with cruise)

LOL nah i dont mind questions! hopefully i was helpful!

thanks man! I'm still learning heaps about the i30... every time i look at it i see something new, it is a very simple car... its interior clips together like a 1990's Nissan/Toyota, the body is the same as well, very Japanese i think its more "European inspired" then European designed...

It was in this thread or another I think I said that a strut brace probably did little more than add weight or words to that effect. :)

After seeing your efforts I have to conceed it added a lot more than that... pride!

Well done.

P.S., I think your engine compartment is even cleaner than mine. I'll fix that tomorrow.

mutley seriously if i had the time i would hand polish all the screws (only some are polished) i try my best with all my cars....

pride!

thats what its all about!! i might'nt have the best or most expensive cars but i take pride in them and look after them really well (ex said i spend more time on the cars than her)

i30 pride FTW

ive decided that ill replace most of the cosmetic bolts with stainles ones! gonna try and buy a box of 100 dome head cap screws next week and washer to suit... then some M10 dome heads and do both cars! its gonna suck polishing them tho... ohh well

i really need to do the suspention on the other car as well but im sure you guys dont really want to know LOL

Try to get A2-70 Stainless Bolts etc. (Marine Grade), as Stainless does not necessarily mean that some rust & other marks will not show, they also have a slightly lower tensile strength. Corrosives in some cleaning products can cause problems unless the Stainless is Marine Grade.
(Marine Grade sheet is 316L).

i used 304 stainless! i know it does mark, and even tho i hve polished it, it will probably go dull in a few months but meh...

No excuse for a dirty engine bay just as important to clean as any other part of the car. Makes seeing any problems, should they arise, a lot easier to see as well as early detection. :)

yer i know its not the i30 but i did some work on my other car this weekend

i lowered it with coilovers... but then i cracked the sh17's with the way the rear springs were adjustable, basically it deleted the big rubber ring from the top of the rear spring and replaced it with a little turned up steel part that has 2 lock nuts on it and adjusts up and down to move the body closer or futher away from the spring...

it was noisy to have metal to metal contact so on saturday i went and bought some pedders springs for the back!

in a weird side note the rear springs are the same as VN commadore...

before!

*note the front camber now LOL
(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/SANY1375.jpg)

the pics dont do it justice it looks much lower than it was before, its probably 2'' ~ 2.5'' lower than standard and a hell of a lot firmer... corners like a mini now hahaha

there are 4 bikes around the house LOL the bike in front of the car is dads CB900 hornet and dad has a ct70 monkey bike he is currently fixing up...

i have the honda spada VT250, and a 250cc pit bike

hahaha i was looking at lowering the i30 when i was at pedder's... i had to bite my toung and walk out! or i would have left with 3 pairs of springs instead of 2 hahaha

anyways... i need to put a set of mags on the i30 before it gets lowered! otherwise it will look silly ;)

i got bored this afternoon... decided to make the tail lights work "properly"

as most of you know, when you put the park lights on, only the top section lights up and when you brake only the bottom section lights up....

i got bored, dissassembled the loom, cut and shut it, added heat shrink here, a touch of electrical tape over there, a bit of solder to the right, and a extra wire to the left and BAM

for those of you wanting to do this, join the pink wire to the yellow wire on the bottom light, and green wire to the yellow wire on the top light.

you will need to cut the yellow wire from the loom as it goes back to earth, then join it to the live wire from the other light!!!

i did have a good write up done but my computer failed when photobucket was being gay, so i made a new account and its now working...

LOL *asks dad* he reckons its fine... he even stated "you do have an eye level light!"

then he went on to point out a heap of cars with high brake lights... and said imagine 10 years ago having a strip of LED's on the front of your car, you would be defected, now you get cars with these "daytime running lights"

i walked off non the wiser! (from him anyway), he did have a good point with the xtrail, lance wagon, volvo's ect having long high rear lights tho!

*shrugs shoulders, cracks a beer* meh

LOL... and the reason for that is?

In 2005, the European Commission (EC) considered making it compulsory for drivers to have their lights on during the day - known as daytime running lights (DRL).

The Department for Transport (DfT) challenged the proposals citing concerns about the safety of motorcyclists and the impact on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.   Eventually the EC voted not to impose on drivers a requirement to switch their lights on during the day.

However, the EU decision-making process is complex and the issue has not, in fact, gone away. It seems that the EC has since decided to adopt a draft directive that will require all new types of cars and small delivery vans to be equipped with dedicated, low energy consumption DRLs, activated automatically when the engine starts.

This will apply to vehicles approved from 7th February 2011 onwards, and to trucks and buses approved from 7th August 2012.  Retro-fitting is not required.

There was a trial some years ago in NSW where you were encouraged to drive with your headlights on during the day from a safety perspective.

I always thought this was a good idea and usually drive with my headlights on during the day even now.
The main advantage is on the highway where a vehicle with headlights on can be seen far earlier than those without. Surprising how many people actually do drive with the lights on during the day.
The new daytime running lights are a great idea!  :)

I used to drive with my parks on all the time in my i30. Because I tend to leave the Hybrid lights on Auto they don't come on until dusk now..

I think they switch of in the Hybrid when you turn off the ignition and open the door on any light setting the same as the i30 (which is a feature that I like a lot)  :D

i dunno aye... i was thinking of the same wheels that are on it here, but i want the proper offset this time... not sticking out, and needing camber to make them work like the maxima LOL (mabey a slightly tougher offset)

i definatly want black wheels... suits the car i think

LOL i have very bad luck in that department...
i30s don't have an adjustable camber, front or rear. the rear has toe but that's it. when you lower it you ll get negative rear camber on the rear but not on the front.
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on September 05, 2010, 11:00:23
its the same as the maxima then!!! the only thing adjustable on the back is tow in/out...

ill just ask for a 2 wheel alignment when i get one
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: 2i30s on September 05, 2010, 11:25:37
no Ian,when the back gets lowered the wheels get massive toe in because the camber goes negative by about 8 degrees. you need a 4 wheel alignment.

Take a few photos of each bit if you can and I am happy to pick the best then tidy them up and post them (hosted via photobucket) in your "how to" thread if that helps.. (obviously you would have to email them to me first....)

You could then make a thread set out in point form and I could modify the thread and add the image links... Just a thought as I know you don't get on with photobucket...

I've become paranoid about shopping trolleys and nearby car doors since I got the i30. She's survived so far but it's only a matter of time. Bit of a shame they don't have rubbing strips but then, I'm not sure how they'd affect the look of the car.

Hi Trev (I forget what colour your car is - White I think) The strips look good on the white..

There are plenty of pix on here of i30s with body protection mouldings (including white ones) - If you can't find any with the search function let me know and I'll email you some.

The only problem is with the number of 4WD and bigger SUV's and utes about now the chance of a door hitting the car higher than a body strip is fairly likely.. hence I haven't bothered to put them on my Hybrid.. :'(

plus a few other odds and ends needed to put the stuff in the car, now i need a million meters of speaker cable, and lots of time to get it in and all right...

BTW before i get flamed for getting "kicker" or "polk" or "JVC" im not really into car stereo's... i just went in and said "i want touch screen, DVD with ipod compatibility, and speakers and amps that sound clear"

so... comments, thoughts all appreciated!

ill be ordering a BRAND new panel for the i30... i can get a genuine one cheap enough, it will be more expensive to pay for the labour to get the old one fixed, and besides ill always see where the dent was even after its been fixed...

well a new panel is cheap enough with our "contact"

by the time i have that, and get it painted, its cheaper than my insurance excess by $50... no doubt tho ill end up getting ripped off somehow :(

im better off fixing it myself, dont loose my rating 1,  save $50 AND i dont loose the car to be fixed at a panel beater for a few days!

the stereo is all in the other car, it was my little project for the weekend (well costly project LOL)

i had a tinker with the stereo settings this arvo... it goes off i reckon! next door doesn't seem to share the same like for it as i do i think... might just have to keep it low around home! dont want her phoning the cops every 30 seconds like when i had my skyline LOL i dont think she liked the black lines down the road...

You can see them in my new car thread (yes they are genuine) and I think they are very similar to the i30 "style visors" .. because it was a demo they dressed it up with the slimline shields (about $80 value) headlight covers (about $70 I think) and Genuine Camry Mats (another $80 to $100?) I love free stuff..

..i just need to find a good painter who doesnt use clear over... i dislike clear over!!!

This got my attention. I thought a clear coat was universal. No?
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on September 30, 2010, 14:00:28
depends on the system...

a solid colours in 2 pak (ie white, red ect ect non metallic) don't use a clear coat... im pretty sure our cars were painted in 2 pak from the factory... its the easiest way to get a high gloss straight off the gun

BUT in saying this i have never been involved in automotive re-finishing... only industrial stuff, and what i learnt there should be roughly the same as cars! (lol im not good with paint at all)

2 pak IMHO is a lot "tougher" than other types of paint (acrylic, enamel)
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: Dazzler on September 30, 2010, 22:03:59
I don't know whether it's 2 pac or not but like you say Ian my understanding is no clear coat over solid colours usually.. That's why I like the metallics and micas seem to look new with little effort for longer..
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on September 30, 2010, 23:20:44
it all boils down to what system they use... some systems the solid colours come out dull as concrete, then they put a clear over it, others give a shine straight from the gun...

general rule is all metallic needs a clear, solids only some systems use it!
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: Pip on October 01, 2010, 03:42:38
Well that's good to know. I can assume then that white will allow me to use a cutter if necessary without fear of breaching the clear coat. With the last car (metalic with clear), I did have trouble. Eventually... after 15 years that was.

Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on October 07, 2010, 13:33:41
ohh i just thought i would say...

if your planning on getting a set, there is a "proper way" to install them

1, get metho/alcohol and give the surface a really good wipe! this removes any waxes, polish, silicone from the surface,

2, wipe it again with metho

3, do it again

4, you guessed it wipe with metho again

5, now find your favourite brand new microfiber/cotton cloth that wont leave lint behind and wipe the residue off REALLY WELL... this part is the most critical!!!

you have to make sure there is no contamination on the surface prior to installing them, any oil/contamination will eventually cause the double sided tape to fail!!!

6, now its time to put the weather shield on! give it a trial fit before you remove the tape! just see where it should sit before you install it, you want it as high up on the frame as possible, but not sitting past the edge at any point!!

now you have an idea where teh best spot is!!

7, peel the protective film off the double sided tape! and start sticking it on, BUT REMEMBER there is no backing out now... if you stuff it up, too bad try and remove it and put new tape on! press firmly when you have got it on to make sure the tape has stuck properly! DO NOT put the plastic under preassure when you put it on, if you twist it or start moving it around, it will fall off eventually, just let it sit in its natural position, so what if it is 2mm out in the center! no one will notice, but when its falling off everyone will notice!!!

remember this, removing them often ends up in tears, they crack pretty easy if you stuff it up... so take your time, be paitent, and make sure all surfaces are spotless!!!

as some of you are probably aware, my car was dented a few weeks ago by a shopping trolley... pretty annoying, considering where i parked (well away from EVERYTHING)

but anyway such is life... im sure ill get over it eventually *builds a bridge*

well here is a pic of the dent, probably not the best photo of it, but you get the idea

its a pretty nasty dent considering a trolley did it... you cant really see it in the photo but it starts off at the bottom of the ruler (shallow dent) then goes into the crease at around 25mm, and up to around the 120mm mark, ive been told i can get it fixed with the paintless dent people which would be good because im keeping the original paint, but it wont be gone 100% so your winning nothing

anyways ive decided to get new parts and get it fixed myself, partly because i can get NEW genuine panels cheap enough, and my excess is $500 so by me paying for it, ill get a new panel thats not dented. I dont belive in fixing replaceable panels, unlike my insurance who would fix the original panel and it would always be noticable... and it will be cheaper than the excess/repairing the old panel!!!

and my switch came with it! so ill soon be equiped with steering wheel controls!!! (when the loom comes from korea)

another thing... i just cant help myself... i ordered one of those hatch spoilers LOL while i was at hyundai i priced one up, and considering it comes painted it wasnt a bad price!

so when i go and pick up the volume control loom, there should be a spoiler waiting for me there :)

considering where i parked (well away from EVERYTHING)

On Wednesday night I went to the local Sainsbury's.

The car park was practically enpty so I park in the middle of a row with no cars for at least 20 spaces in all directions.

Came out and guess what.

Yes............ Car next to mine with passenger side of their car practically touching mine.

The rest of the car park was as before with no cars within 20 spaces.

Now I don't know whether to think they park next to mine as if someone was to steal a car they take my i30 rather than their tatty thing.

Is that a change of our times..... the Hy brand has leapt to the higher status of a other brands.

LOL i would hate to see the dent that would make...

man at the time i was soo p155ed, i wanted to load the trolley up, take it to work and oxy cut it into 1,000 pieces then put it in a box and dump it on the door of the shop who owned it...

but you know what, its not their fault some retard couldnt put the trolley back/rolled it down the slope into my car/what ever...

i feel for you eye30, i hate it when that happens, even when i had my old 4x4 (and it was a pile of rubbish) i still didnt park next to people (partly because of the turning circle haha)

there is a nice spot under the battery to mount the horns on their bracket (mine are stupid cheap ones so i had to MAKE a bracket) and the motor is mounted off 2 studs on the inner fender just behind the headlight next to the batttery tray!

air horns are illegal in Victoria Ian,what about queensland mate. we can have an unroadworthy sticker put on our cars for using them.   its stupid how easy you can buy things and fit them to your car to only find out the hard way they aren't legal, they shouldn't sell them if that's the case.   IMO.

A quick search on google suggests they are legal if switched from a separate switch (in other words if your normal horn still works when you press the steering wheel button) but that is not an official answer - just from a couple of forums..

one note, twin horns!

And how many amps do they draw, more that 20A? Did you use the existing wiring, or did you incude a relay?

i used the existing wiring, there is a relay and fuse on it! relay is rated at 20A, got knows how many amps this unit draws... cant be much its a TINY compressor...

air horns are illegal in Victoria Ian,what about queensland mate.

yer i think they are illegal here, but you know what they say... "illegal is just a sick bird of prey" :p :P :P

A quick search on google suggests they are legal if switched from a separate switch (in other words if your normal horn still works when you press the steering wheel button) but that is not an official answer - just from a couple of forums..

my normal horn works still when you press the button... AND the air horns come on :P  all i did was disconnect one of the normal horns, then put the air horn wiring to one of the horn plugs! (i didnt cut the wiring at all, i used tiny push in spades)

ive also hidden everything... its not noticable at all... teh chances of them finding it by looking are pretty slim!

yer i can probably get a sound clip! ive gotta go to the industrial area tho!! im not playing with the horns at home anymore!

Air horns are legal in Victoria, as long as they are single tone.....see HERE (http://rx7.pw.cx/guides_manuals/collected/vicroads%20modification%20guidelines%20vsi8%20may03.pdf) Section 3.1 General Modifications.

All's good Agent, I also found dual or single air horns are legal in Queensland, as long as they are of single note or tone....see HERE (http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/358eb9d2-cb39-4ce2-8a1c-1efe4abcdc80/pdf_veh_stds_ais_codeofpractice_section2a_feb2004.pdf) Page 12 (3)

HAHAHAHA a true fitter and turner never lends anyone his pocket ruler :P :P

pics of where i installed the air horns as promised!!

the horns are on this side of the battery mounted the the chassis rail there is an M6 tapped hole in the rail i simply made a bracket that holds the horns and bolts to the tapped hole (there are actually 2 holes from memory)

so... hidden under the battery are the horns cant really see them LOL
(http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd416/agentr31/maxima%20and%20i30/SANY1473.jpg)

same angle but as seen from just under the intercooler pipe with the radiator on the right hand side, engine on the left
(http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd416/agentr31/maxima%20and%20i30/SANY1472.jpg)

now for the pump... its mounted on the other side of the chassis rail off the inner fender there are 2 studs (M6 again) that i made a "U" shaped bracket off that holds the pump!

you can just see the shiney silver top by the -tive battery terminal
(http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd416/agentr31/maxima%20and%20i30/SANY1475.jpg)

bit closer in with the battery on the left hand side, the front of the car at the bottom and the fender on the right hand side!

as for the wiring, its simple it runs below attatched to the loom that runs to the factory horns and is zip tied to it, then i disconnected one horn, added some mini spade terminals to my wiring filed them down a touch (so they went into the factory plug) taped it all up so water cant get in the loom and bam working horns

took me a few hours to do because i had to figure out a good spot to mount them that was not noticable, then i had to get to the factory wiring from underneith the car... as that panel that runs arcoss the front of the radiator support panel is attatched to the bumper bar...

as for the wiring, its simple it runs below attatched to the loom that runs to the factory horns and is zip tied to it, then i disconnected one horn, added some mini spade terminals to my wiring filed them down a touch (so they went into the factory plug) taped it all up so water cant get in the loom and bam working horns

took me a few hours to do because i had to figure out a good spot to mount them that was not noticable, then i had to get to the factory wiring from underneith the car... as that panel that runs arcoss the front of the radiator support panel is attatched to the bumper bar...
hey Ian,did you paint the horns black,or were they like that allready? usually there red.

umm i have an announcement to make...

i want a nudge bar... and i found ONE company that makes them...

anyway the reason i want it is to run a better CB antenna thats NOT mounted on the body as a deacent one isnt small, but in not going a 'white stick' or in the middle of the roof as IMHO it would look ugly and be better suited on a nudge bar, plus when you sell the car you can remove the antenna and no one knows why it was there, just it has a nudge bar...

i dunno whats peoples opinions??? yay or nay?

yer i guess, the way i see it, to put a deacent antenna on, i need to drill holes... may as well cut some small holes in the bumper while i have the front end off to fix the dent (yes i havent fixed it yet even tho ive had a painted fender in the shed for AGES)

LOL!!! at the essential accessories!

i have the most discreet way you can go at the moment... a glass mount areial! it looks like the ones on undercover police cars just an antenna on the glass BUT it doesnt work very well IMHO, i want something a bit bigger and stronger...
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: babis_xo on April 19, 2011, 14:44:56
After a little thinking and (mostly) googling, I can see why you're thinking about installing a nudge bar... funnily enough, it's more discreet than a CB mount system.

If you don't regularly tow other cars (which i hope you don't :sweating: ), then you can mount the aerial under the towing eye cap. An extra cap costs about €4, so you can also drill a hole for the aerial to pop out.

Quite possible, but they would never admit it.... My experience of autobarn has been mixed.. (seems to vary a bit depending on the Owner/Manager) ..haven't had much luck with the Devonport one but the Launceston one is very helpful...(although I try to use Supercheap now as that is where the son-in-law works)

HELL yeah

after eleventy billion days, im putting my car back together, as some of you may recall i ordered a nudge bar, started fitting it and a new panel to fix the damage a shopping trolley did to my car,  then cracked the preverbial shits and left the car in the shed for a "sleep"

well ive got my backside into gear and am fitting up my new panel, nudge bar (well the assembly side of it) new CB aerial and giving it an oil and filter change :)

i should be back on the road this after noon, its been quite sad seeing it on stands in the shed for what seems like for ever!!

just found a blown air con hose...

Wonder what caused that  :undecided:
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on August 28, 2011, 12:42:25
appears to be leaking from the crimped part of the high pressure hose coming from the compressor... i looked under the car and its wet with aircon oil on the sub frame, i picked it up this afternoon while servicing it, but i was hoping it wasnt from the aircon hose... then i looked harder and it was apparent thats where the leak was from...

ive spent all arvo trying to fault everything else in the system and it seems (well with out specialist equipment) its lost all its gas from that joint...
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!

How long since you've used the car and the aircon?
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!!
Post by: agentr31 on August 28, 2011, 13:08:23
dunno precisely... late june, early july...

it shouldnt make a difference... the maxima has sat for longer periods of time and its fine, its more than likely a hose problem thats taken this long to de-pressurise the system...

here are some pics of the nudge bar and fixed panel!!!! let me say this, i dont like aligning panels anymore... its not a fun job and to get it looking factory is HARD!!!

how my car sat for ages!! i stripped it, then due to hyundai always stufffing up as per usual and supplying me with the wrong part, i left it on stands in the shed...

Love your posts, keep up the good info..... especially nice to see a proper nudge bar fitted, thought about one until I was told the price - now on the wish list for Christmas one year.
Re your CB MODS.... by chance do you have any further photos you might be able to post or email please ?  Seriously looking at the GME 3540 and was excited to see that you did what I was thinking re the centre compartment.  The antenna is my biggest decision... but most likely 'L' bracket onto the inside of the right rear roof rail, cable into the rear wagon door and entering the same rubber boot as the lights etc.  Any snaps of your mount under the gear change would be a bonus...

mate its dead easy! zip tie the control unit to the shifter cables!! you really dont need any pics, it slips under nicely, BUT put a bit of stick on foam under it so it doesnt rattle!

i think the nudge bar was $500 or something... i cant remember now LOL

its better to fit a nudge bar, it gives you a proper point to mount an antenna!!

I FINALLY HAVE WORKING AIR CON!!!

they fitted a new compressor! re gassed the system, and BINGO! its colder than ICE!
Title: Re: agents diesel love affair!!! and some house pics
Post by: agentr31 on March 26, 2013, 11:15:23
i dont know if many of you here know... but a year ago almost to the day i bought a house... best and worst decision ive made!

sure im a 'land barron' now, but it did ruin my relationship...

COMPLETE BASKET CASE... every wall was punched in, most things were hit with a hammer, from the stove to the bath tub, shower was all smashed with a bedroom curtain as the shower screen. the only door in the house was the toilet door, no external doors locked properly the laundry door was the master bedroom door and an insect infestestation FROM HELL... well you get the idea!

the day i got it...
looks ok... but the grass was 4 ft high 2 weeks before... now i have 'lawn' not sticks and weeds with dirt

fixing it
(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/DSC_0359_zps7a0189ca.jpg)
80L of paint later, 3 20kg tubs of plaster and a whole lot of dust masks!
some of my better ideas... renforcing the shelfs in the built in wardrobes... i swear the last owners stored bowling balls, car batteries and lead weights up there it was bowed down 15 cm... so i bashed a stud behind it, and put a pretty lip on it then put the verticle brace in just so it will never droop!

BLINDS!! yer i know, grey, but what the heck, its light, neutral and looks modern (for how long tho LOL)

$10k on the front, a car port, that cost a fortune, as you can see from the roof line it steps back 1m for the rarage, and i had to get a bloke in that specialises in building them around things, as no one else could do the span i wanted!

bigger drive way, a proper garden (with rocks under the windows ) 5 fluros in the car port friggin lights up the whole front yard and road at night...

LET THERE BE LIGHT!!
i have fitted it out with stainless steel remote fans, metal light switches, nice metal lights and black carpet in the rooms, looks clean and sleek i reckon!

Thanks for the pics. Looks interesting.  :goodjob:

ohh it was interesting... interesting to find walls stuffed with bunnings catalogues, then plastered over... as if they stole the catalogues at the door of bunnings when they were getting plaster!

and a wall with a cut up licence in it, cigarette buts, a joint and beer caps! WHO DOES THAT! ohh and the smell... THE SMELL OHH GOD MY NOSE!

the main bedroom, had no carpet, just the wood around the edge with nails in it BUT, when they moved the bed (it was a mattress with no sheets, doona's or ANYTHING and one pillow) out of there, the concrete was BLACK, filthy dirty stained where they had been walking.

it took pool chlorine and MILLIONS of mosquito coils to get the smell out of that one room...

as most of you probably know, I've always got a little (or large) project going on most of the time!

well, my old man cracked it with me now having a tow bar on the i30 and his trailer ending up living in my garage (literally) and not his!

so i get a call, 'I've got a suprise for you, come here after work' said dad.... thinking he has bought a new car, or finally lined the shed inside or put power to the shed from the house, i go there and BAM...

THE WORLDS WORST LOOKING TRAILER, and i mean complete S#17... its didn't even have a chassis number or an identification plate because its so old... (found out it was built in 1983)bubbles of rust, surface rust, RUST ON RUST!! a corner fully rusted out, XD falcon steel rims with tyres so perished just looking at it was a OH&S hazard!!

then dad busts out 'shes got potential look some one has replaced the floor recently, and its heavy duty, look at that steel, its THICK'... and I'm like    POTENTIAL!! you mean hours of work!!

anyway, i cut the floor out, welded new cross braces in, added two more, one at each end, cut the rust out and put new steel in, put a wire wheel on the grinder and spend a full day buffing the surface rust off.

then came the paint!!! zinc rich  2 pack primer, then 3 coats of 'gold'n yella' 2 pack, all put on with the 'little ripper'

a set of EL falcon mag wheels, new LED tail lights, new number plate lights, wack some new wiring in it with some 'corro' over it to make it look professional, some new tail gate clips and LOWERING IT!! cant have a lowered car, with out a lowered trailer LOL

painting! yes even the underside got paint, infact even the underside of the floor got done!
(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/DSC_0777_zpsc7237fcb.jpg) (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/sykomonkeeeee/media/DSC_0777_zpsc7237fcb.jpg.html)

its the little touches that make it look good!

all finished and on her maiden voyage...

That's fantastic, but is there a b4 shot.

no, but im sure you can imaine what a trailer from 1983 looks like, basically the sides were fine. there was a deacent hole in the font about 50c coin sized with heaps of bubbles around it, then the front door had a corner rusted out.

bubbles of rust on everything, and the cross braces under were totally rotten!! ohh and they just stuck the new floor on the old one, causing rust on the new floor, hence the yellow around the of the floor, and the underside is fully sealed!

there were heaps of drilled holes too i filled in, for some reason the tail lights had heaps of holes behind them!! the rear valance panel needed attention, the number plate had collected dirt behind it and it had rusted fairly severely, and lots small rust holes (brass/copper plate behind steel is good for filling holes up)

Great job.

Is it the sun, or did someone start painting while the wheels were still attached?

i used the old rims and tyres to prop up the front tailgate when i was painting, the front panel pulls off so you can put long things through the trailer like 3 seater lounges!

do people have box trailers in the UK??

Actually, there doesn't look to be much clearance between the tyres and the guards.... :undecided:

35 mm or so, it has very heavy duty springs, 4 leafs and thicker than the new ones they sell now...

heres two shots of it in pimer these are the only ones before the yellow

(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/2013-04-28162733-Copy_zps68ef6a6f.jpg) (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/sykomonkeeeee/media/2013-04-28162733-Copy_zps68ef6a6f.jpg.html)

this section of the lower left hand side of the front door was rusted out,70mm long and it went up into the verticle riser about 30mm, its got a smear of body filler in it now. ohh and aso the piece UNDER the door that sits on the 'A frame' ad connects the two side chassis rails on the front, you cant see that, but that got reinforced too!

(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/DSC_0807_zps99f936fb.jpg) (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/sykomonkeeeee/media/DSC_0807_zps99f936fb.jpg.html)

here is how i fixed the rusted out door panel, i stitched some angle iron on to the door, behind the panel, with some tidy little welds top as shown and some under that are hidden.

(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/DSC_0811_zpsf04ddf5f.jpg) (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/sykomonkeeeee/media/DSC_0811_zpsf04ddf5f.jpg.html)

this section was rusted out too, looks like dirt was building up behind the rusted out front section and infront of here. you can see the weld in the corner showing here i put the new plate in (roughly where my fingers are)

(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/DSC_0808_zps161a7900.jpg) (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/sykomonkeeeee/media/DSC_0808_zps161a7900.jpg.html)

the repair infront  from a distance

(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/DSC_0812_zps1a9ff365.jpg) (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/sykomonkeeeee/media/DSC_0812_zps1a9ff365.jpg.html)

here you can see the pitting, its fairly obvious up close... but honestly im not running body filler over the whole trailer!!

(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/sykomonkeeeee/DSC_0814_zpse0670cf4.jpg) (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/sykomonkeeeee/media/DSC_0814_zpse0670cf4.jpg.html)

behind the number plate was rotten too,  repaired it, and filled it, then put the number plate and rego label holder on spaced off the body so dirt cant accumulate there again and do the same thing!

have used marine grade paints... Zinc rich 2 Pak primer followed by a polyurethane 2 pak gloss paint, 4 coats all up it will only rust if there is no paint there and there is enough! Also it's stored in the garage!

OHH YEAH! i would like to say, i have paid my car off, in full and own it 100%

3 years, 4 months, owned a house for 1.5 years of that, so i had to reduce the repayments from the 3 year repayment of $177/wk, to $100/wk so it was affordable still. BUT none the less its payed in full and i just have the house loan to concentrate on now! 22 years 11 months and counting!

Congrats!!

If you really want to smash the mortgage, take the money you were paying on the car, and increase your mortgage payment by that amount, before you know its there to spend.

Once you start spending it on you, you'll never get it back to the good guys!! Smash that mortgage whilst the smashing is good, because interest rates may go down one or two more times, but there going to go one way from there....

im fixed for 5 years! sure it COULD jump to something stupid... but its pretty low ATM so i figured it would be worth the gamble to fix it.

yeah, thats the plan try and get that mortgage down, with in reason, i do have other places to spend that money ATM, like saving for a new kitchen, even tho the house was built in 1995, the kitchen is a lovely shade of 1970's green, has water damage from all the plumbing being loose when i took ownership, and is really beaten up from the last animal of an owner... i also need to build a pattio thats not corregauted iron NAILED down to a wooden frame meant to have shade cloth over it, then there is a shed to house my fleet of vehicles, its probably easier to save the money and do it over a few years than take out more money and have it all at once.
