Difficult conditions in this years opening event see the two i20 WRC's finish day one in 7 & 8 places.

The last stage of the day saw a returning Sbeastien Loeb who had stormed into an early lead break the suspension of the Citroen DS3 dropping 6 minutes, last report had him trying to return to service with the wheel being held on by straps.

In a double blow for Citroen, Briton Kris Meeke had a similar incident on the last stage which saw him stopping at least twice on the stage.  Unknown at present if he has made it out or if he has retired, reports suggest the latter.

Polish ex F1 start Robert Kubica had an interesting shakedown, posting many videos of him flat out which were spectacular and ballsy, however I did post on Facebook that it looked like and accident waitign to happen and indeed he has thrown the Fiesta WRC off a few times over the course of the day.

Time will tell, possibly need to wait for the two opening rounds to get past and really see where they are, it would appear that over the break VW have at least stayed the same, but both Citroen and Ford look to be more competitive than last year whereas Hyundai may have dropped a little behind Ford at least (last year the i20 was regualrly posting 5th to 7th in stage times, in Monte they were posting more like 9th to 11th).

Monte is a specialist event as is the next round in Sweden, the gravel events will really tell us.
