I did a bit of shopping around today for a set of tyres for my SLX Crdi. The original Hankooks have done 66,000 kms and while there is still a bit of life left in the rears, the fronts need replacing so I'll probably get the full set all at the same time.
I've been quoted $139 for Kumhos and $189 for Pirellis.
Initially leaning towards the Pirellis of course, but the saving of $200+ (the wheel alignment from the Kumho dealer is half the price too) is appealing.
I drive sedately, but the Hankooks were noisy from new so not sure which way to go, but the $$$ may win this time around.

Hi Dave... maybe you can find something like a yokohama or bridgestone that is somewhere between those two prices...(If you are likely to keep her at least another 12 months with the amount of kms you do I would like to see you go with something better than the Kumhos) I'll check em out when I see you soon  (I'll email or PM you)

Hi Dave,
I also replaced my original (noisy) hankooks at around
67 000km in August, 2010.
Went with the Pirelli P7, and although they were relatively
expensive I couldn't be happier with them. A quiter, softer
ride with much improved steering response.
PS. I have the SR mags on my SLX so got the 17" tyres.

Thanks Dazz, look forward to it.
The Bridgestones were about the same price as the Pirellis, but I'll give it some thought.

Thanks Russ, sounds like worth the extra $50 per tyre then. I'll have another look at them.

Go for Continentals. They're the best VFM

The New Thailand made Ford Fiesta Diesel runs continentals.. like the look of the tread pattern (Should have taken a photo ) But from what Surferdude taught me look like they would be good in the wet and fairly quiet as well...

Hi Dazz, when i test drove the German built Ford Fiesta Diesel it had Michelin energy mostly for economy, also steel wheels. maybe the conti's are THia made? Michelin are made all over the world too, not sure if that effects tyre quality?

Not sure where they are made John. I drove the Econetic, the new diesel is supposed to be quieter on the road but not sure if the tyres contribute to that....
