Just been to drop my lad off at school and my front brakes are grinding... didn't notice it yesterday on my way home from Glasgow.

Its been wet overnight, so could be rusting off the discs but I'd have thought the school run would have cleared that so I'll run it into my local garage when they open.. in the meantime, anyone got an idea of cost to replace the front pads? Its an i30 Comfort 1.6 59' plate.

I didn't drive Fergie on Tuesday, but yesterday my brakes were giving out a gritty sound; soon cleared up tho (and yes, there were faint tints of rust on the disks). I'm just grateful that no road-salting has been done around here yet, otherwise I'd expect heavier grinding noises.

Just short of 22k... the wife does most of the driving and she's a bit leaden-footed when it comes to braking :D

Hoping its just a build up of muck; can do without this expense at this time of year. ;)

I reckon you will be ok .. Very unlikely to need replacing at that mileage  :winker:

Hope so... my local garage opens at half-9 so I'll run it in and see what they say. Don't think my credit card would be too chuffed to have another £100 slapped on it at this time of year. :D

If there is meat on the pads & no signs of odd disc wear, I'd keep my money in my pocket... 22k miles is nothing, not even a lead footed wife can wear pads / discs out in 22k miles...

Dont worry, as long as the brakes dont pull to one side or the other & stop you clean & quick all is fine. I've got 27k miles on mine now & pads have about 2/3'ds left on them.

Jobs a good 'un, garage road-tested and reckoned it was just a build up of road muck & brake dust. Gave the wheels a good blast out with the jet wash and that seems to have done the trick.

:D

i cant recall anyone posting that they had replaced their front pads due to them being worn out.

There's a post somewhere from me about a 45,000 klm i30 we needed to do front pads and 2 drive belts. It was an original model (2007??). That's the only one I remember. It had perfectly good calipers and rotors, although we machined them as a precaution. So there was no obvious reason for the rapid wear.
