No matter if you are trading in the car or plan to continue driving with it, just go for that offer.  :goodjob:

The worst option would be to trade it in as faulty. The dealer will happily state how the turbo replacement will cost $4500 and the offer is lowered as much. BUT, that's the rip-off price for customers, and the real price for them is significantly less even if they ordered a new turbo, and for a car which is out of warranty they will most likely get that used one instead - ta-da, they just made huge profit!

Good Option,

If I was you I would speak to them about rolling the 180k service into the turbo replacement. From memory the 180k is an auto service as well, which is why it is so dear.

In reality with oil $65, filter pack (oil, diesel, air) about $70 and auto fluid (lets go over the top and say $100) there is plenty of gouging there from the dealers. I would want the oil changed and filter changed when the turbo was done anyway. They might throw in the service to get the job, or at the very least do it for cost. '

I drove with my turbo sounding like a siren for 20,000km with no issues... Thats how long it took me to convince Hyundai it needed to be changed under warranty.

If its Hyon Auto Parts in Camberfield, they aren't too bad. My friend had the engine in his Granduar replaced there and they seemed ok to deal with

Drove this.  Can get for $18000 with trade in.

I didn't tell them about dodgy turbo, but I'm sure they'll check the most recent service notes.

I'm confused..

The add in this link is for a 1,8 liter petrol but the pictures shows a tailgate with the CRDi sign (pic 8)

Was it a petrol or diesel you drove..?  Wrong Pictures or wrong description..

What code am I looking for on the turbo head?  Talked about it with my friend today and he mentioned T2, T3 or T4.  I said my mechanic struggled to see the actual code.  If not code, what exactly am I/we looking for to ensure I get the right turbo.

Did find this online somewhere, not sure if it's what I need when asking for turbo:

Engine: U2 Euro 4
HP: 121
CC: 1.64/4
Fuel: Diesel
Model: GTB1444V7
Part Number: 775274-0002
OEM Part Number: 28201-2A700

You could possibly ring Hyundai spare parts, give them your VIN and they should be able to tell you exactly what part number you require.

I've emailed my Huyndai dealer/service centre with the VIN etc, but yet to hear back from them.

I don't think a 2008 would be a U2 motor?

Success!!!!  Thanks to my friend, I've managed to track down a cheaper genuine turbo from MTQ Engine Systems in Laverton (VIC).  $1062 plus approx $500, but all up maybe $1200-1300 as the oil feed (?) could need replacement or something like that.

And it's a GT1544 Garrett Turbo apparently.  I have NFI!  Ha ha.

Now I'm getting somewhere...hopefully!

Goooood morning everyone!

My car is finally sounding like it should.  Turbo was replaced yesterday.  Labour was $350.  Took quite some time to change things over as the whole manifold had to be removed.

Mechanic explained the issue.  Said instead of the 'fan thingy' (what I call it, not him LOL) running smoothly, there were notches which caused it to catch.  He said oil going from the sump wasn't an issue, because as soon as he removed the turbo, oil was running freely.

I kept the old turbo.  Dad was going to pull it apart but my friend actually wants it.
