None. If you do find a good dealer stick with them! But my experience of my local Hy dealer was very poor so at 5 years old my car now gets my personal loving attention! I doubt there is a better maintained FD around!

my major services to be completed, which each time has taken no more than 1hr 40 mins, now in this time how can they do everything which is in the list,I regularly rotate my tyres,I have like the dealers the capability of jacking all fours up and removing the wheels, inspect the calipers and pads, this takes me min 45- 50 mins to do it thoroughly

For one, they put the car on a hoist. Then they'll use a rattle gun to take the wheels off. That would take all of ten minutes to do.

And don't forget that these guys do it every day. Practice makes perfect, as they say.

In any case, it's not difficult to check the pad wear without removing the wheels, model dependant, of course. When it's up on the hoist you can access them easily.

And this gets to the crux of the matter; how can a service which mostly entails the "checking" of items cost so much when clearly it takes little time to do?

I don't know what the average hourly rate is for a mechanic's labor. But as I posted previously, if they charge a grand for a major service then you'd hope that a lot of that is for parts, if they have the car for a few hours.

The cost of the service should be for purely hours worked plus parts and materials. But for whatever reason (profiteering, anyone?) they seem to tack on an extra few hundred bux for a major service despite it not taking a few hundred extra bux worth of labor to do it...

Yep, private mechanics are the way to go, but if something serious occurs which requires factory expertise such as specialised equipment to analyse the fuel system, or the computers in the car, then we're pretty much forced to cop the dealers' seemingly outrageous charges.

Not sure what location you all are but this kind of reminded me of a dealer trying to over quote a customer in QLD and ending up with an investigation from the manufacturer (apparently).

Aka: http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/east/wynnums-bartons-hyundai-have-spoken-out-over-a-viral-facebook-post-slamming-an-inflated-service-quote/story-fn8m0sve-1226611946749

Thought it was interesting.. Though sorry if mentioned already.

What you've said is another reason why I don't want to use my Hyundai dealer. It's not just the fact they are charging $1K, but I do not fully trust the work they do. At my previous service (75k) they chose a random spot in the service book (105k) and filled that out as completed. Also, the next service reminder sticker on the windshield said 95k (instead of 90k). I went back to them and said "I did not realise Mr Magoo works here".
Sure it's the service book and not the car ... but in my opinion if they can't get basic things right like filling out the service book properly, then what hope does my car have of being done right?

On the plus side, when you get the 105 done elsewhere it will appear that the dealer did it. Though I have never known anyone to actually pay more money for a non European car with a non dealer service history.

Sydney Filter Service do a nice major service pack (oil/diesel/air filters for around $60 plus delivery). Easy if your looking for parts to take.

Thing is, doing all the simpler, more basic fixes and service routines yourself (outside of Warranty) means you actually saved towards the higher costs if and when incurred later. I reckon to date, over a 5 car "fleet" here, I'm actually around £800 better off over the last 18 months or so...

No doubt if you are capable of doing these things it is the way to go  :goodjob:

Yep I almost purchased the Sydney Filter kit .. but ended up buying genuine oil / air / fuel filter from eBay, and only cost marginally more.

Any person in reasonably good physical health with some DIY skills and confidence is capable of doing an oil and filter set change themselves, I don't need any more motivation than saving a few hundred quid for a few hours work, I can't earn it that fast lol! You need minimal tools for doing a single make and over time you get a selection of useful tools and your tool spend drops off.

I love Ebay.....Do they have any more? If so can you point me in the right direction?

I asked today when getting the brake switch done. Apparently the service Hyundai provide for the automatic is only the equivalent of the $180 one quoted by the auto place. A full flush can be done at extra expense  :disapp:

I didn't bother to ask how much for the 90k or how much extra for the flush....

I have purchased these items. Prices include delivery..

genuine Air Filter : $US13.49 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271165160425
genuine Fuel Filter : $AU49 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-HYUNDAI-KIA-iLoad-iMax-i30-SPORTAGE-DIESEL-FUEL-FILTER-Z707-/281040694333
genuine Oil FIlter : 2 for $AU24.95 = $AU12.48 each : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111091071835  (image shows a different filter, but you will get the correct one)

So the total cost of purchasing the above genuine parts is around $AU77 delivered.

Compare to Sydney Filter Services non-genuine - $60 + shipping ($10?) = approx $AU70 delivered.

Hope that helps.

My love affair with Ebay continues.

Got all genuine parts for my 90k service for $75 delivered.

Because the air filters were so cheap I got 2, and saved US$3 on postage, the oil filters were 2 for $25 so I now have a spare oil and air filter for next time.

Thanks Nev for saving me time on looking on Ebay...All of the ones you posted were cheapest (and I would never have looked at the air or oil filters because of the description/picture)

Glad you were able to make good use of that beerman. And yes, that did take me some time to research to find the best prices, and ensure they were the right parts.
I had my 90k service at the independent yesterday, using those parts I purchased from eBay .. all good :)

Another good price at the moment .. Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 5L is $45 at Repco, catalogue special. (I purchased that last Thursday .. hopefully still going this week!)

That is a good price, but I'll be staying with the Mobil One 0w40 5.4l for $74.
