Just came back from hyundai dealer where I booked the 70000km service.
I ended up leaving once I hear how much they wanted for a plain oil+filter service.
they were asking for $300 in labour + parts, which I guess would have taken it up to $400 at least.

Is this reasonable?

I ended up driving a few block to a local mechanic, who I took earlier cars to, and he's doing it now for $185.

I'm quite disappointed with Hyundai, but would not be surprised these are their standard fees.

One bad thing of the local mechanic though, is as soon as I got back home i got a call recommending me to do a replacement of the air filter and front pads+machining of the disc.

Refused the offer, as I prefer to change the air filter myself (with a K&N) and I'm going to inspect the pads+disc before I accept to do the work.

What do you guys think?

G'day Kroner,

I've stopped going to my Hyundai dealer due to the prices that they charge.  I now use my local mechanic, at a substantially reduced price, while still keeping my warranty.

As long as you make sure the mechanic is suitably qualified, then your warranty shouldn't be affected. Disks & pads have wear limits, so if you measure them and they're within limits, then they don't need doing, do they.

70k?

Its not due until 75.....

Hyundai are thieves when it comes to servicing. I don't know how they can look you in the face and charge that.

I apart from warranty (and a free 15k service I got on the wives car) I don't use them.....Too expensive.

I've done 98,500 and not needed to change the pads or rotors, and there are a few others on here that have gone well over 100k without doing the same. Unless you are stop/start traffic non stop, I would be surprised if the pads were gone....

53,000  kms in this one and not even looking like it.

Yes I'm coming up 100,000 K in both of ours and there is next to no wear on the rear pads and rotors, the fronts after pulling them out and putting a micrometer on them, they have at least another 90 to 100 k in them, depends on how hard you or the previous owners where on the brakes.

But yes like others I haven't used Hyundai other than for warranty work, they service charges are a joke.

I meant from a maintenance point of view. Although the engine braking is very good on diesels.
