Hey everyone,
just popped in to say gday,
we picked up our i30 fresh off the lavender ace two weeks ago now,
(crdi slx manual White)
Its a great little car,
Impressed soooo far,
I do have one question but, we recently took our car up to brisbane 400km run there and 400km back and had terrible trouble with the cruise control,
Woldnt engage, then would engage and floor it, and im picking up a few rattles in the cabin
We are hoping that we havent picked up a friday afternoon special here...
I finally managed to get it back working by tapping the brake and clutch pedals, (thought maybe it was a dodgy clutch switch ?)
Any way its going it for its 1000k svc tuesday and will mention it to them.
by the way can anyone actually confirm that the car will actually do 4.7l/100
so far (i know shes just new) the best ive got it 5.8 city and highway
not much diff i know but i traded in a car that was slurping 24l/100 Highway and the only reason i traded her wass because of the apparent savings,
any feed back would be great,
cheers guys and gals
steve

Welcome Steve, I'm only new here too

Can't answer any of your questions though as I only pick mine un in a couple weeks! Mine is the exact same as yours! (crdi slx manual white)
My guesstimate about the fuel is that it needs a little running in.

Was just about to ask what the hell is the Lavender Ace.  :-[ But I worked out it's probably the ship it came on. :-[
Speaking as a petrol owner I'd reckon you need to put a few klms on the car before you'll get the best economy out of it.
Also, you wouldn't be human if you didn't have a little "play" on a 400 (x2) klm road trip. Which would have some effect on the consumption.
I also think that to get the stated figures you'd have to do everything "just right". Carefull acceleration, think about braking well ahead of time etc. And I have a pet theory that a good driver can get better fuel consumption by NOT using the cruise control.
Re the cruise control problem - I'd be VERY forceful about them rectifying it as a matter of urgency.
My CC is the smoothest and most predictable I've ever used.

ps. Welcome to the club. You'll learn all sorts of things here. Even some about the car.

Welcome Steve,

I've got a March 2008 CRDi Manual with 60,000 clicks on it and have averaged around 5.4-5.5 LPH since new in hilly old Tassie. In very flat South Aus some of our members are averaging under 5 LPH. Some of our members have noted a gradual improvement in economy after the first few thousand kms while others like me have noticed a definite improvement in the feel of the gearchange but not much change in the economy.

Cruise wasn't available on the diesel when I got mine but I would be insisting on yours being thoroughly checked at the 1,000 service as something isn't right. Most reckon their cruise works a treat with the diesel...

Hi Steve,
My crdi white slx is of similar vintage and km to the Dazzlers
and will now easily return 4.7L/100km and gets as low as
4.1 L/100km if kept to around 2000 rpm on flat highways. On a
recent return trip from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane I averaged 4.4 L/100km
Mind you, in the early days I was also averaging in the 5 to 6 range but
from my experience you should be confident that you can also
achieve the 4.7 figure after about 30 000 km.

Welcome to the club Steve.
Probably the problem is related only (?) to the cruise control but better check it ASAP. It's a brand new car after all.
