Held on by a nut, which is accessed by removing the interior rear trim.

THe aerial just unscrews from its base.
Why would you want to go inside the roof lining?

The manual says so, but that's for total removal. Would the Veloster one just screw onto the existing base.  :Dunno:

The Veloster ariel is a Sharkfin. Problem will be that I'm pretty sure it's not a radio ariel. It's either nothing on the base model or GPS on the V+ & SR.

Yeah I thought the headlining had to come out well when I say out I mean dropped at the back to get to the bolt and the veloster aerial is for radio and has a built in booster for reception some mods aren't so easy but

I'll get it done I'll take some pics when I do this and post for ne one who wants  to  change their aerial

Again roof mount ariel is GPS. The radio ariel is in the rear glass.

If you're after a shark fin style antenna, I have one from http://www.visualgarage.com/Distributor.php on my i30.
Very straightforward swap with the original antenna.
Works just as well as the original, and hasn't interfered with GPS signal.
Just clean the roof thoroughly before sticking it on.

Did you have to remove the roof lining to fit it or does it fit over the existing base mount? Their site appears to be in maintenance mode.. :undecided:

Yeah to remove the aerial base you need to drop the roof lining. Remove rear and middle pillers, trim clips and the handle aids on the rear door, this should give you enough room to access the bolt holding it down.

Had to remove my base when I vinyl wrapped my roof.

It just goes straight over the top of the base. It comes with a 3M adhesive tape pre applied, you just need to clean the area around the base with iso-propyl wipes beforehand.

Some painters masking tape helped me align the antenna while I did a dry run, as the tape adhesive is very strong and pretty much holds it in place on contact. I accidentally got it just the tiniest bit off centre when I applied it, which I've had to live with, but the OCD corner of my brain would like to one day pull the thing off and re-apply it.

So how much does it cost? the website is still under maintenance so it doesn't tell us anything.

Thanks PP you can get that heavy duty 3M tape they use for about $10 at Mitre 10 and Bunnings if you want to have another try!  :goodjob:

I got the MK2 in black, which at the time was $69US, plus $28US shipping to Australia.
A somewhat expensive aerial, considering it is simply an aerial, but it is far cheaper than getting the correct OEM part from Hyundai, plus then having to remove headliners, etc.

I recall at the time looking at various assembly data pages, which basically lead me to the conclusion it was way to complicated to install a genuine shark fin from the Veloster/US i30 on my Premium i30.

They will also colour code the fin for you, but that adds about two weeks to the process, and for those with the panorama sunroof, the black looks pretty inconspicuous.
