I read a story long ago that BHP offered the car industry stainless steel for an extra $10 per ton and they wouldn't have a bar of it.

I think it was more along the lines of the same metal but with rust inhibitor or some other alloy solution that would mean the cars wouldn't rust. Naturally, the industry said 'no way'.
