Oh dear, another one of my pet hates.

Google maps needs a netwerk connection, so anywhere where there's no WiFi it starts eating at your data bundle. Plus, saying that Google maps has a billion user base is bulls^%t, seeing as how it's embedded on every Android phone that hardly a selling point.

Maybe Sygic could put in bid.

Yes, it could be an expensive trip if you used G maps and weren't aware of the data cost. Stupid idea. On my Nokia, there's a download of all the maps for your location which I did at home on unlimited, then you simply travel and the phone uses it's internal map to locate & advise you, no charges. I used it on the train to Darwin where there was no reception , all the ipods / pads or whatever they're called lost their GPS, I laughed.
