If you have Windows 7 or 8 you should already have the notice to reserve your free update to windows 10 in your taskbar

"Note" For anyone who for what ever reason doesn't want to see this new icon in the system tray or,
doesn't want to update to windows 10 for Free, it's simple:
You will need to uninstall the Windows Update KB3035583 and that should get rid of the icon, alternatively you can simply hide the icon too.

I hadn't noticed that icon on my Win 7 laptop. Have reserved a copy but not decided if I'll actually use it yet. :)  Probably wait for reviews from ordinary users.

Do a Windows update... it'll appear.

The update link appeared on my desktop yesterday morning but on neither of our laptops even though all are bang yp to date.

This morning I checked my laptop and the link has appeared overnight. I will check management's later today. I'm busy packing - we are off to Lincolnshire today for a few days R & R with friends. It is going to be a wet and windy drive, the weathers grim.

Have you installed the optional update KB3035583, you need that one pre-installed to be given the option to reserve Win10.

Aha.
I don't do optional updates. :-[ Well, actually I run my eye over them and make a call on how I feel.
But I found on Microsoft's website how to reserve it anyway.

But, the next question is - should I?
I'm happy with W7 on my PC.
My wife's and daughter's laptops are W8.1 and are working fine .................now. :)

Part of the process with the local upgrading/reserving is to scan the system for incompatibilities, my system scans fine as pictured below but the GF's Win7 system has early Intel graphics which is incompatible so Win10 wont be going on her system.

Trev, with  8.1 systems I'd definitely upgrade since 10 is basically an update to 8.1 including better usability and security...with Win7 it would be personal preference but if the system is capable then I'd say yes if even for the new security features :goodjob2:
