As you have a Diesel engine to crank, make sure that the CCA ratings are at least the same as the original. Do not skimp on the battery, as it has a lot of work to do to start the car. If you disconnect the battery your ECU and other components will be reset. This should not be a problem and in fact we sometimes advise disconnecting the battery for 30 mins to cure some car faults. If you're careful, you could maintain 12 v connection with a small substitute battery by connecting + to + and - to any good earthing point while the old battery is being replaced. When my time comes I will just simply disconnect, I think.
