Are electric vehicles capable of charging off at intersections, only to be passed later by conventional cars, sounds clumsy to me.

While not a typical electric car, here is an example of an electric car vs a petrol car in acceleration.  The advantage of electric motors is that the maximum torque is available from the get go.

If electric cars aren't polluting the air surely they can hang around and let the polluting vehicles have priority at traffic lights etc...  :D

I'm a fan of electric locomotion for two simple reasons:

1. the pollution (air, noise) problem is shifted out of the immediate environment
2. the dilemma of sourcing green energy is also shifted out of the immediate environment

allowing smarter advances to be made at the electricity generation end.

They will need to have a decent range and batteries that don't ignite. I knew they were fast (just having some fun).

Battery powered cars need to be given a clear run so they don't have to repeatedly accelerate the huge mass of batteries they are handicapped with!  :mrgreen:

Cost, range, charging points, resale values, lack of government incentives (in Australia) just some of the reasons for slow uptake.  :cool:
  • 2021 MG PHEV ( had 4 x i30 plus a Getz an Elantra and a Tucson)

Let's hope that it stays this way. Taxpayers should not have to subsidize those who choose to drive expensive inefficient cars under the misapprehension that they are saving the planet. It's like the situation with the heavily subsidized purchase of solar panels and generous feed in rates, which some people enjoy at the expense of others.

I find it frustratingly inefficient to leave solar generation to the individual householder. What benefit do I derive rfrom putting solar panels on my 5 investment properties? Zero. The only sensible way to reach solar efficiency is nationally, as Spain is doing. :victory:
