Imagine what trucking companies would pay - and the effect on commodity pricing.

Imagine what low income earners who need to travel long distances to work each day will have to pay. Also people on fixed incomes. This would definitely stop a lot of people using their cars.

Stupid idea

If they stop using cars, the fuel tax revenue will fall, consumer items like tyre sales & car servicing would reduce, causing flow on effects throughout the business community, loss of employmnet and business failures. Surely, economists have thought of all of this stuff.

It would work over here in Blighty if...

a) fuel excise duty (currently running at around 67%) was cut, to 0%

b) road fund licences (tax disks / vehicle excise duties) were scrapped

c) value added tax (VAT, currently 20%) on consumables (tyres, oil, filters, bulbs) was slashed to 0%

d) toll roads converted to freeways

Not too sure, but I seem to remember a government-sponsored investigation into per-mile charging around 10 years ago. No idea what came of that. Oh wait, yes I do. Nothing came of that.

Bit like the idiot over here now wanting to put a toll ONLY ON TRUCKS using a certain highway to pay for it's extention, doesn't want to hit normal mums and Dads, what does he think is going to happen to freight costs, who in the ned is going to pay for it Moron, like Steve said only way this will work is to drop all other related taxes which now exist.

UM gave the perfect example, due to my circumstances, employment where I live,my finacial delema if we were to sell our home(as we would not be able to afford another home in perth)I"m forced to travel to work, this would cripple us,I'd be better off on the dole like many others.
