Title: Third service and first MOT test <sigh>
Post by: asathorny on January 08, 2013, 21:38:45
Tomorrow morning at 10:30 my baby gets her third service and first MOT test.   I guess it's time for a new car really, I guess it's either get a new car or keep this car and run it too death.

I ran my last car to death...  well not really, I ran it to seven years  and traded it when it began to show signs of forthcoming expensive work.  This I assumed due to the following:-

The nearside CV joints were clicking noisily when I did tight figure of eights which used to be the diagnostic test for same, since I don't have a proper workshop with a lift ramp that would have been around 3 or 4 hundred GBPs at a garage.

The clutch although not slipping had lots of mileage and would have been getting into the renewal area, same as above, no workshop no overhead ramp, so lots of money to have it done at a garage.

This is the last service under the pre-paid service deal I took...   I am pretty convinced that I am just about breaking even, I paid 600 GBPs so it averages out to 200 per service.

I will know more tomorrow evening, watch this space

Hi Sean, I have over paid by a few quid then according to what you paid  :blubber: :blubber:

My motor has done 15021 miles in the three years that I have had her.  I really only use her for work and only work three or four days a month (sigh).  I would like to work more but I can only work when I am asked too.   I work in hospitals dotted about mainly in the north of England but I will travel to where ever I am needed I specialise in psychiatry and work as a reviewing manager of patients detained under the mental health act and if needed lift the section.  Anyhow, my mileage is quite low due to the above :-)
My tyres still have deep treads  :goodjob:

Lets see how we both go  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Good luck.

It isn't dreaded actually - but a genuine attempt to ensure that cars are roadworthy. It isn't perfect - but it is better than nothing.

You see very few death trap old bangers on UK roads nowadays.

My third service and first MOT at the end of February.  I've done approx the same mileage as well, but on short shopping trips mainly - not driving off to see if I can get some nutter released into the community.  :D

My last car was twelve years old when I moved on to the i30 and I'd expect to get the same life out of the Hyundai.

I just hope I'm still around to drive it when it is twelve - though it may well outlast me by a few years.

In the past fifteen years I think I have lifted two sections and both have remained in the community without issues...    I think I may have misled you, I have no control over those detained for criminal acts they are sent under section 37 under judges rules 41 and can only be released with the permission of a judge of the same rank or higher.  The people I deal with are very ill and often very vulnerable....    Any how, nuff bout me I have take my shiny red car to the car doctor...   back later

As predicted by Steve, she sailed through the MOT test and the pre paid service was carried out.

Third years service as far as I can see is a quick glance round and change the oil and filter !!!

This year I followed Dass's  advice and noted the mileage prior to leaving her it was 15026 miles, I check the mileage as soon as I got in the car 15027

Must have used some other dopes car for the lunch time run this year  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

She back in her garage now having a well earned rest and de-stressing   :whistler: :whistler: :whistler:

so only 1 mile.
you may have been on .99 and turned over driving into/out of workshop.
no road test which should be a minimum of, i think 5 miles..........,as part of the service check

Took mine in this evening to be serviced and given first MOT tomorrow. Got a Nissan Note as courtesy car, which has a very nice sat-nav with speed cam warnings all flagged up but not as nice to drive - though obviously I'm not used to it so not using it to its strengths.

Called in at a couple of shops on the way back then found that Chorley-Hyundai had left a message on my answer-phone. Wondered if I'd missed taking something, but it was actually a sales call saying they'd value my car for trade-in and give me a test drive with the new i30.  Mine is hardly run in yet having only 8000 miles on the clock and only a shopping car really so handing over a cheque for £7k+ to get a shinier one with mainly cosmetic improvements and a less powerful 1.4 engine (according to their figures) isn't really on the cards. Diesel no use to me with short runs of course.

Maybe in a couple of years I'll get a Veloster Turbo to replace it - but who knows eh?  :D

Chorley-Hyundai are the same guys who do my servicing and stuff. I've never found them pushy in that respect so I'm a bit peeved they never rang me with any "we'll buy your car" spiel :(

Maybe the Blackpool branch are full of keen salesmen who grab any opportunity.

Though somebody I know who has an i10 got a call to go in for one of their 'special invitation only' things and get their 'special' trade-in value for it.  Wasn't very impressed.  :D
