Title: I30 diesel - low oil pressure light
Post by: I30 Northmead on August 17, 2010, 09:22:23

 Hi Guys,

Does anyone have a problem with the oil pressure light staying on for a couple of seconds after start-up. It only happens at first start in the morning or after the car has been sitting for a few hours.
Every start after that it goes out immediately.
I assume the oil from the filter must be draining back to the sump and this is what the couple of second delay is, filling the filter housing back up
Any ideas ???

Yeah, it's common enough alright. I always wait 2 or 3 seconds after the glowplug light extinguishes before I engage the starter; the oil light then disappears straight away.

normal, as the oil filter is facing upside down, so when car stands with motor off, oil drains out the filter partly, the light stays on while the filter fills with oil & pressure rises . nothing to worry about.
only worry if light comes on while your driving.
good luck

So long as it goes out after a few seconds at start up it's OK.

Only be concerned if it lights whilst driving.

 Oh by the way if you have a habit of flipping/turning the car up side down it may come on or the presure of the oil circulating it may not      As anyone tested this yet?

The U2 has an ultrasonic oil pressure gauge and mine seems to go out pretty much instantly. They introduced this as a step towards bi-yearly servicing
