Hi Everyone...

I got permission to take Trishie's CW for a nice little run today (about 35kms of mixed driving - mostly in the 'burbs but a bit of 110kph highway stuff too)

Her car is a November 2010? MY11 Manual 2.0Ltr Petrol SX with cruise pack (cruise and driving lights) It has the standard tyres on 15" aftermarket alloys with tinted windows, Rear Spoiler and a few other cosmetic improvements.
It was first registered in January this year and has just over 6200 kms on The clock ...

I usually drive my MY10 Toyota Camry Hybrid with CVT Transmission which is extremely quiet, quite responsive and has a "cossetted" ride ...

My observations today were mostly very positive....Engine response more than adequate (even up hills), quite sporty infact   :goodjob:. The (5 speed) manual gearbox is a highlight being undoubtedly the best off the showroom floor change I have ever seen (much better than our previous MY08 CRDi)

The electric steering is also well weighted (and quite similar to the electric steering in the hybrid) I reckon it has adequate feel and just enough assistance. I also like the feel of the brakes in the i30 they have a nice reassuring and positive feel (just like our old CRDi)  :goodjob: and better than the hybrid which has a bit of a dead feel probably due to the regenerative arrangements to recharge the battery.

We have been running the kumho Solus 34PSI all round in the i30 and the ride is about right (better than the Auto i30 Hatch we recently drove in Queensland) I didn't check the tyres but they must have had 40+ in them they seemed much more harsh. While talking tyres, they don't seem particularly noisy either

Only two negative were the fact I stalled it twice (But I am used to an Auto these days) and the door locks are still a bit stiff to open .. I might edit this but got to get ready for work

  • My little "GEM"
35 kms,   highway driving, only surpose to go to a couple of shops,.

Stalled her a couple of times, how did you do that. forget to use the clutch. she never does that.

the door handles are a bit stiff, but I don't notice that anymore, I am used to the feel of them.

I love my i30 and will not be getting anything else , hopefully she will last me the rest of the time we need two cars. It is the best car I have ever owned.

Anyway, I did use the clutch (just not enough revs I guess)  :undecided:

The petrol i30 is definitely susceptible to stalling (although Trish says doesn't happen to her)

Haha great and funny topic :D What can I say, I would also love to try that 2.0 petrol i30 once.

Dazz: How do you like the CW? And do you prefer 2.0 petrol over 1.6 diesel ? Which one of them would you get for yourself if you were buying it again.. I know that for Trish (regarding the kms she does), petrol is only logical thing to do.

Trish: Great to hear you like the car  :goodjob:

PS: I won't comment the stalling, I guess it happens also to the best :P I guess it must have been quite unpleasant and you probably wanted to say (to the people that were watching you) - hey it's not my car.

I like the look of the CW more than the hatch.. As you can see there is very little that I don't like about it (the extra 100 litres of boot space is also handy) If I was buying one for myself and had the extra cash handy I would go the 1.6 CRDi 6 speed every time. But, the difference between the 1.6 CRDi and 2.0 Petrol is not huge.. I could live withthe Petrol model quite easily.

Both times I stalled it was taking off from the lights and I managed to get it started quickly enough that I doubt anyone noticed   :sweating:

I was actually shopping for a little garden bridge for Trish for Christmas and I went to 2 Hardware stores, a Garden Emporium, a Landscape supplies shop and two nurseries...

It's 14kms return just from our house to the centre of Devonport.. :winker:

Plus because I took Trish's Wagon (in case I found one) I also had to visit a garage and put some petrol in... :whistler:

For the record I ended up buying one off the internet with free delivery  :happydance:

Don't worry Daz, I have the same issue, when driving the mothers 1.4 Petrol SE (Should maybe get a pic up ..)
Its such a sensitive accelerator pedal, compared to the diesel, such a light car to drive. I tend to either over rev it, or stall it :(

To make you feel better i stalled the i20 6 times just yesterday. (530 k's in one day tho) very imbarrassing considering i race cars.

In my defence you near on need to floor it in the i20 to leave the lights and the crrutch is light as a feather compared to the big v8's ive been in for the last 10 years. And ive only owned the lil thing since thursday night.

The i30 CRDi we had before my Hybrid had a brilliant anti-stall function and the Hybrid has stop start technology so I can't stall that
