Hi All,

I'm New to this forum I hope someone can give me some advice or point me in the right direction. I use my i30 for driving tuition and use it everyday, had a full service at Hyundai at 20000 and a oil change at 30000.

Ok the problem I have is that my i30 gears are getting stuck and is not going in properly especially gear one and reverse, there also a grinding noise under heavy acceleration and slow lifting of the clutch. I took it in to Hyundai and they said they have to take apart the clutch to diagnose the problem which is going to cost me £500 and kept the car the whole day to tell me that, however my local garage bloke drove it for 2 mins and said I need a new clutch.

Now I'm not sure what to do, has anyone had any similar problems, it's a new car I know it is being used for tuition but so early is that right?

Thanks for reading hope someone can advise me on what to do.

:wlcome02: Wow, that is a tricky one! From our experience on here (more than 6 years) the i30 does not appear to have a weak clutch. In fact, the manual versions have been bullet proof up to 200,000 kms and beyond (in some cases)

Like any brand/model, there have been a few isolated clutch issues, but few and far between.

Clutches aren't usually covered under warranty (especially for a driving school)  :undecided: but I would be shopping around several dealers for the cheapest fix..  :sweating:

Hi and welcome.

How old is the car?

Is it less than 5 years?

If you read the links there appears not to be any restrictions for cars used for driving lessons lessons therefore should be covered under the 5 year warranty subject to limited cover on certain items.

:link: Hyundai |5 Year Car Warranty |Hyundai UK

The warranty on the clutch is 24 months or 60,000 miles

:link: Hyundai |Limited coverage

Hope the links help

Driving school and clutch, these two don't go well together, especially for newbie driver's.

Only you know how the clutch has been treated in its short lifetime. I would get quotes for replacement and go with the cheapest, qualified repairer.

@Cruiserfield, are we talking Dual Mass Flywheel in this vehicle

In the UK the i30 1.6 CRDi does not have a DMF.

At that level and driving school, clutch would be subject to a heavy useage so let them check it and see what they conclude.

Fair wear and tear no doubt.....
