So the car I’m buying (2018 i30 SR Premium PD) has a decent rego number as these things go. The most memorable I’ve owned in a long time. WA plates are also blue on white which matches the marina blue paint quite nicely.
BUT I’m thinking of custom plates for the new ride. Premium model so why not? Okay, it costs more. Don’t tell the wife. Can you help me decide...
Do slim plates look okay? Sometimes they look weird in a plate recess or holder.
Blue letters on white... or
Black letters on white... or
White letters on black?
(I can also do white on blue but not inclined that way)
Blue is neutral but black and white universal if I change the colour next time. Also thinking of the black grill...
-
As the grill is black then a black background plate would make the letters/numerals stand out better, there is a series plate design called "intense" which I think would look nice on the blue duco
-
I had seen that. I wonder if there’s a way of seeing it IRL
-
If you go to your local transport department they usually have all the styles displayed on a wall, they do here anyway.
-
I went slimline on the Front of my SR. Fits better than full size.
I am happy to Photoshop your main choices on to the front of a blue SR if you like. What was your choice of numbers and letters?
-
@Barbarulo Here you go. In my opinion blue on white looks best but like you say WHite on Black or Black on white will suit future cars better unless you go blue again. In Tassie I was able to get a remake in a different colour for half price! After 7 years of blue on white and 3 different cars went red on white for the SR.

mine are white on black, my car is black though.... I'll grab a pic if you want to see them.
-
Wow, thanks for that!
-
I reckon the blue on black is nice in Dazzlers pictures but as mentioned it won’t transfer to another colour well down the track, another option that looks nice is the Platinum plates with silver on black that suit all colours, they’re only $120 but you don’t get a choice in the numerals though visually they’re great.
-
I've decided to go with white on black. I'll probably get the prestige - they're a balance of price and personalisation.

:goodjob:

Actually, ordered one for my wife's car too! She'll kill me, but short term pain for long term gain. The plates are one digit different and will be so much easier to remember (and find in the car park).

Do you not have to conform to approved plate size and design such as lettering spacing/size, reflective yellow background on front and white on rear as here in uk?

@eye30 In a way yes, though in Australia we have to conform to our own spec design rules http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/plateswa.asp (http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/plateswa.asp) our plates are the same colour for front and rear.

I ordered mine directly from the Department of Transport, so completely legal. I don't know if you're actually allowed to display your own 'home made' plates here.

Definitely not, though people have been known to try :)
