Title: Smelly when new
Post by: warshell98 on November 28, 2008, 06:55:52: Hey all, finally picked her up yesterday, Niiiicce. Quick question though, has anyone had a strong diesel smell in and around the car? No noticable leaks anywere, just the smell. Maybe cause its new, things bedding in all that kinda stuff.
Any help would be great

But I think I'm used to it.
With the parents having a TDI Golf.

But it really isn't too bad.
I prefer the diesel smell, as opposed to unleaded

well i don't think i could smell a diesel smell, but i have noticed different brands of diesel can smell different. the shell seems ok ( smell wise ) the Caltex Vortex premium diesel seems ok, the Mobil has little bit more smell to it, BP about same as shell. but, i did have a strange interior smell when new, did not smell like any new car i've owned b4. but no idea why. smells ok now.

Post by: Jayel on November 28, 2008, 22:36:05: Hi Warshell98, possibly paint and surface contaminants burning off the exhaust pipe and muffler. Also new engines emit strange smells for a few 100ks due to heat in the engine bay. It should go away soon.

It was from tye engine area and I assumed it was the oil etc on the engine bits an pieces and when this burnt off it was OK.

No smell now.

Post by: i30girl07 on March 16, 2009, 00:23:26: When i picked my i30 up i had the smell, and questioned Hyundai about it and my mates and they both said its some kind of coating on or in the exhaust thats burning off. No issue.
