Title: leather seats and sweaty people
Post by: ccjj on June 05, 2016, 22:24:40
One more question if I may. I'm interested in people's opinion on the leather appointed seats. What is the sweatiness factor? I have noticed in past that leather and especially fake leather reduces airflow and can leave you with condensation.

From inspection the seats on the Active X have perforations. Does this help? What are people's experiences.

Haven't heard any complaints.

I have a leather couch and don't have any issues.

With the A/C blasting it won't be that hot in the car anyway. Only problem I could see would be if part of the leather was in the direct sun, and your skin made contact.....ouch

From my experience, leather seats don't heat up as much as the old vinyl seats.  They are cool on a warm day, and comfortable on a cool day.  Just remember that you need to take care of them, otherwise they will become brittle and crack.  A good leather care product from any auto-parts store should do the trick.  I use Oakwoods.

What Fatboy (Jamie) said. Leather seems to breathe a lot better than the old vinyl did, even without perforations. Love the smell of it too. I have put lambswool seat covers over my front seats as my wife reckons they get a bit cold in winter, but you shouldn't have that problem in Brisbane. Mine are heated but doesn't stop the initial chill factor...

Thanks for the help friends. The Active X is a nice car, that leather smells so good

And the alloys. And the auto side mirrors. And the price. Got one dealer down to $22K even, in a colour.

I just think I would be too sweaty on those seats, it comes down to that. I sit on a vinyl or leather chair in moderately warm weather, I get humid. It's odd.

Maybe I'll do a test drive and see how I go.

Thanks for the advice along the way, I was ready to part with my money two weeks ago, literally whole in pocket situation and I WANTED A CAR RIGHT NOW. But I'm glad to have slept on it and spent the time to look into all the options and tactics. I've visited a few dealerships, you definitely need to be armed and equiped with all the research when you enter that conversation. They know ALL the sweet words...

Get the Active-X and if the Leather doesn't work for you just put seat covers on the front.... Plenty of styles and price points to choose from...

Absolutely.
But the better the quality of the leather the more comfortable they are in temperature extremes.
Most mass manufacturers these days seem to like the term "leatherette," which is code for not really leather.

That's a keen price. Best across the country is $21,990, though with plenty of Poverty packs for $18,990 you need to know if the 3k is worth the nearly leather and mag wheels (which I have seen on Gumtree for $450).

They are in Brisbane, we don't have cold days, so all should be good  :whistler:

If affordable, I'd vote leather. There must be a reason all the high end cars have it. Next, fabric, last of all vinyl!

I vote sheepskin...  :snigger:

I like the look and smell of leather, but good quality fabric upholstery is hard to beat.
