just some tips i picked up as a courier driver long time ago,  if you look in the side mirror before changing lanes, and see a car behind you, but you CANT see it in the centre rear view mirror on the windscreen,  then he is too close to change lanes on.   same for when im passing someone, i wont cnage back into my lane (on a dual lane carriageway) untill i see the car i have passed in my Centre rear view mirror.  it ensures there is at least 1 car length between me and the other car.
