Hi,

I was enjoying the first 9 day's of ownership, when on the 24th Dec the car started and I got about 5 miles from  home when the engine stoped.

When you restart the engine it runs for about a minute then cuts out.

The dealer only got the car this afternoon from the recovery company, and they have no idea what is wrong the diag computer is showing up over 20 faults, and have no idea how long to fix.

Anyone else had this problem?  I think it might be with the car only new the really cold cold weather has caused the problem the temp outside on the display was reading -18.

Regards
Bob

Have they offered a loan car at no cost to you no matter how long you have it?

Also

a brand new replacement car should be the order of the day.
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

The trouble codes (DTCs) should point to the problem

Hi!
Probably there's something wrong with electronics. I hadn't  this problems with the car, even last year's winter (below -20C).
I think, that is not big problem for repair.

That many codes? Guess that's an ECU or wiring harness failure, don't suppose you know all the codes?

I believe no one else has ever reported this condition, we will be interested to hear the dealer's diagnosis. Given the list of codes it should be easy enough for them find the root cause.

Almost certainly water / condensation induced, or a dodgy battery cell maybe, even a loose connector in the loom somewhere.

Hi i30Bob and welcome.  So sorry to hear about your troubles.  I hope it is sorted out swiftly and permanently, and that the dealer keeps you mobile and smiling.  How these sort of dramas are fixed makes all the difference to whether a customer goes back to that dealer or manufacturer of course.
I suppose (tongue in cheek) if your car failed after just 5 miles then the good news might be that the dealer did not do a very long test drive thrash for the PDI!
I have same car - different colour - now about 6 months old and 7k miles.  It has been bother free altogether although I have a short list of warranty minor niggles to take to the dealer next year.

Update from Dealer!

I phoned the dealer on friday to get a status update on the car, they have never seen a new car with so many faults and think it may be the wiring loom at fault.  Hyundai UK are sending an enginer over this month to try an solve the problem.

"this month" doesn't sound very good. Did they loan you a car?

If you can tell us the list of codes we can probably guess where in the wiring the fault lies. I presume they checked the earth continuity.

We don't have a list of the one's firing on Bob's car, but I have access to the full list from Hyundai. (which I can use, but not publish).

Hi Folks,

Got my i30 back yesterday.  It turned out that the ecu had gone faulty, once they changed the unit the car worked fine.

That explained why they were getting different codes every time you turned the engine over.
