Traded in my beloved Citroen C5 for an i30 Edition 1.6 petrol in Mica Stone Black last week. First impressions very good. Is it a keeper though? Any really high mileages out there and what are the costly maintenance items to watch out for? Cheers!

welcome aboard.  probably the most expensive maintenance on your car would be new tyres, oil and filter aren't that dear, even on a major service you wont need a second mortgage to pay for it. IMO.

Welcome to the club and congrats on the new car. The i30 has won several awards in Australia for being economical to own and maintain (and over here anyway would cost as little as half as much to service as most european brands)

Welcome B164D,

Service is rather cheap, just the fuel consumtpion is increased in city traffic (petrol cars), but i think is still more economical from the C5.
A keeper? Well, it has a 5-year guarantee

Well Guys
Thanks for your warm welcome. I'm liking life with my i30. The usb thingy where a stick with millions of mp3s can be played randomly is great and the sound quality kicks the pants off the old C5. The initial fuel consumption was high but the latest fill at 660miles (1060kms) shows 36.8mpg (7.68 l/100km). Engine is probably still a bit stiff (not that I'm noticing it) so that should improve. I prefer the C5s approach to speed bumps but although being wafted around in a comfy armchair is sometimes good I prefer the handling of the i30 on twisty roads - and it doesn't rattle - at all! And it's pretty quiet, a little bit of engine noise and a tad more tyre noise - nothing to get excited about but I look forward to fitting Michelins when the time comes. All in all with an expected annual mileage around 8000 miles I think I did right to get the 1.6 petrol rather than a diesel.
The club looks a great source of info and help - at the moment I'm finding it difficult to tear my eyes away from the Korean Club i30s. At 55 I'm unlikely to be modding mine but its good to see the work that some people are lovingly giving to theirs ....
Cheers
John

Even worse, it has started washing out, turning into pink.

Me too (unfortunately no Pilot Exalto in 195/65-15). Almost had an accident a couple of days ago when a taxi stopped transversely in the middle of the road to pick a customer. Hankooks are getting worse as they wear out
