Heard on the news today that the Army are being trained to collect/deliver fuel should the Tanker drivers vote for a strike next week.

So keep your tank topped up so you don't get caught out

If they strike it will be interesting to see how Ed Milliband reacts to the strike action. He was appointed leader of the Labour party due to the Unions block vote of support for him rather than for his more able brother (whose name I forget).

Well it has started around here -----  PANIC -- buying of fuel.

There are 2 garages within 1 mile of each other and this morning when I went out at 9 am both had queues of at least 20 cars.

When I was coming home at 12:30 pm this number had increased to nearly 50!!!!!!!! at each and the cars were blocking the entrances/exits to the roundabout.

I filled up yesterday when I first heard the news and the petrol station was empty..

This has caused chaos for traffic on the roads as both are near to major junctions/roundabouts.

The thing is, the strike isn't about fuel prices. No. It's about driver conditions

Now BP a few more miles away are cashing in by increasing their prices by at least 3ppl more than usual and yes there are Q's

What's the issue, Shambles. We don't seem to be getting any news about it down here.
When we were there in 2000 we arrived on the back of a drivers' strike too.

Yes, 2000 was also a very bad year (September in particular) for fuel problems (I couldn't get to work for 2 weeks) (unlucky me).

Right now, the tanker drivers aren't happy with their pay, hours, holiday and redundancy, so their union is pushing for strike action.

It doesn't make things easier when a government minister suggests we all fill up as soon as possible and store fuel in jerry cans at home. Pillock. A jerry can can hold 20L of fuel, which is illegal (and dangerous) to store at home.

DON'T PANIC! then he says to stockpile fuel at home. Daft tw*t.

Yep. September was it.
We were in Singapore on our way over when we heard about the strike.
We had about 6 days in London, then a hire car booked for the next month. :scared:
They went back to work the day before we were due to pick up the car and we were able to get it with a half tank. Which got us out to Canterbury where we found some fuel. It was OK after that, even in Scotland.

A woman in York has been taken to hospital with 40% burns after setting fire to herself while decanting petrol in her kitchen.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's Peter Hudson said he had been told the woman's daughter had asked if she had any petrol, "so they were decanting it from one container to another".

The U.K. fuel situation even made the news in Perth, W.A. tonight.
Which is strange when you think about it.
If service stations in Perth were running low, I wonder if it would make the news in England? :undecided:

I very much doubt it - not that it is right - but we are an insular nation at times for some strange reason.

We get a lot of news from the Asia/Pacific region, naturally, but also quite a bit from the U.K. & the U.S. as well.
What a well-informed bunch we are, aren't we?  :D
