Did a recent quick trip to Canberra as I had a balloon flight which I won a few months back.
So took the opportunity to do a bit of sightseeing whilst we were there.
The annual Floriade is still worth a visit, but gets very busy on weekends
Mt Stromlo Obseravtory - was wiped out in the 2003 bushfires. The remains of the telescope buildings are still there, the admin & accom bldgs have been rebuilt.
The telescopes are now at Siding Springs due to the light polution in the Mt Stomlo area, don't have eye pieces any longer as they are all digital now - interesting that they are controlled by the staff @ Stromlo.
Canberra Deep Space Tracking Station Tidbinbilla ACT - a bit out of town but still worth the drive, a very comprehensive display on space items here.
Rememberance Day 100th Aniversary
There was a project started to have 5,000 knitted poppys made in memory of the Aust lives lost in WW1 for placement in the lawns in front of the ACT War Memorial. The project gathered momentum & they ended up with 62,000 - representing all the Au lives lost in the war.
Balloon flight pics? Nup, both Sat & Sun flights were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. So now need to reboook sometime before the voucher expires 31st Dec. Bummer!!
