Hi,
When I started the car up yesterday the EPS warning light stayed on, the ESP OFF light lit up, and I had no power steering.
Looking through the forum, possibilities seemed to be either the fuses or the EPS unit.
I've checked the fuses and they're all OK.
Any other possibilities other than changing the steering column? That's probably going to cost as much as the car's worth to have it done, and is way beyond my car maintenance skills!
Or any suggestions for someone who can repair it economically in the Salisbury/Andover/Winchester area (UK)?
The model is a 1.6 CRDI Style 5d 2009/09.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Welcome Tim,

Very sorry to hear that. Never a good thing. Your cheapest option is sourcing a 2nd hand column with warranty from a wreckers yard or online. Hopefully only a few 100 pounds versus maybe  a thousand plus fitting. Plenty of threads about the issue and fix on here.  Browse the relevant section or use the search function.

Also check out You Tube for how to videos etc..

Hopefully more tips to come from our friendly helpful members..

There was two recalls for power steering problem on Hyundai i30. It may not cover your car as it is 2009, but contact Hyundai and see, if they will honour it.

Find a working used unit and have someone fit. Someone else did that in your country and saved them a lot of money.  I've seen cheap units on Ebay in the past  or wrecking yards.

Yes, I found a couple of good sites for spares, rather than just eBay:
1st Choice Spares for 2nd hand parts from car breakers etc :link: Used Car Parts | Car Spares | Car Parts | 1st Choice
Autodoc for remanufactured parts: :link: AUTODOC ? online car parts store with over 2.5 million auto parts

Thanks for everyone's help.

Also worth considering putting in a new coupler bush too before install whilst it's out if it has not been done.
