What an amazing overreaction to a person's right to display a sign on their car.   :disapp: :disapp:

Not getting into a debate but it's getting common to be expected to present views as employees and not individuals when in the workplace. :Dunno:

If that's the case,  Gonz, it's very disappointing.

I agree it's seems an over reaction but on the other hand she was displaying a sign that goes against the views of her employers to which coal transport is there business ( don't bite the hand that feeds you ) :whistler:

Support from an unexpected quarter probably, but it's a free country and it's her car.  :undecided:
Her employer doesn't have to agree with her views, but they should respect her right to express them.
Grounds for an unfair dismissal, I bet.

I agree.

If a worker at a fast food store prefers to eat another brand of fast food, should they be terminated from their current employment

If that employee came into work advertising they prefer the competition I can guarantee they would be told remove the advertising or don't come back the next day.

To be fair she wasn't sacked, she was offered employment elsewhere as she was no longer allowed on one site.

She refused this employment.

As an aside, we don't have freedom of speech enshrined anywhere.

Read the article again,  Beeman.

"Kym Garrick's employer Corporate Protection Australia Group fired her from her job at the port earlier this month, telling her it was because she displayed a sign that read "Coal Dust Free Brisbane" "

She was only offered another position by her employer to save them an unlawful dismissal case.  :fum:

If she was offered another position then she wasn't fired or dismissed she was transferred, presumably for mis-conduct.

If she refused an  alternative position that was offered  then she chose to leave and wasn't fired or dismissed.

Presumably there are employmont rights in Australia which should have been followed so we don't know the whole story and newspapers never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I know that I would be asked to remove a "No LNG in the Kimberley" sticker on my car IF I drove that car to my worksite. Why would I shoot myself in the foot?

I'm all for her expressing her right to protest, but don't bite the hand that feeds you.

The military was similar, you could protest all you wanted, as long as you did it as a citizen, not a member of the military.

I wonder what her contract said (if anything) about this type of thing?

How many workers who work say in the car industry drive the brand they assemble, work on, sell etc....

Or shoe sellers only wearing the brand they sell...

Or supermarket employees only buying food etc from their empolyers stores....

Or.....the list goes on........

You are taking it out of context, for example you say "How many workers who work say in the car industry drive the brand they assemble, work on, sell etc...." concentrating on the selling aspect if you worked for Holden selling their vehicles and you turned up for work wearing ford apparel you'd be asked to change or bugger off.

Or say the shoe seller going in to work wearing apparel with slogans stating "no leather, animals shouldn't be harmed for the profit of shoe making" when your in an industry with a huge market for leather shoes, your employer here would be quick to tell you that you cant wear that apparel at work and to behave in a manner that is respectful to your industry while at work ( do what you want in your own time )

You need to look at the area/industry this woman was working which is constantly picketed by tree huggers and the employers have every right to ask their employees to act and show respect for the industry they work for, the woman is a complete idiot because she was asked to remove the signage which she did and then stupidly she put it back up "what a moron" as I stated earlier "don't bite the hand that feeds you"

3rd is my Jeep. I love 4wding so I need a decent one.
And no Terracan does not rank highly enough for me on Offroad ability. If given one and 20-30g to do what I need to I'd definitely drive one.

You can have my Terracan if you want.  While I like it, I don't love it.  I would much prefer a Prado.

So, you bought a Jeep?
