Has anyone actually solved this rattle? I had a search but no answer of a solution.

Over 6 months ago someone mentioned something about gromets or plugs in the firewall under the dash needing to be pushed in tight to fix it but never got around to having a look..

You don't think this might be the same rattle (that just sounds like it is coming from the glovebox??)

Possible but after I open the glovebox and close it, the rattle stops for a little while.

Pip
And if it's the same as mine it stops if you just leave it open. I think it's looseness in the hinge pivots.

Either leave it open or turn up the radio

Seriously now:
I remember seeing a bar at the left side which pushes onto a bar.

Check to see if it is fully home

I've looked around but couldn't see anythign obvious.

The one that most annoy's me though is the one under/in the dash drivers side as it's constant.

I only ever had the buzz in the glovebox area but it was a constant annoyance.. I really should have tried to silence it early in my ownership period. Trouble was it was usually at highway speeds and I'd get home and forget about it until the next trip..

Has anyone actually solved this rattle?

Is this a global thing

I have the occasional cringe but a quick open/slam shut solves it

It was a feature of my i30 I didn't tell Gowan's Toyota about.. :D

After driving my Hybrid demo around a bit I reckon it was the first thing the Salesman would have noticed when he took the i30 home for a spin.. They didn't test drive it during the trade in negotiations

Also, the filter housing for the Air con is behind the glove box.

Could be that the filters are not fully secure.

it could even be the door you can slid open and closed for the chilled glovebox.

i had a play with it today...

i think if you put a small patch of foam between the glove box (or one of those little stick on rubber pads) so there is a slight bit of tension between the glove box and dash it will go away... ill try something right now actually and let you know how it goes tomorrow!

well... i figured out what it is!

its the locking pins for the glove box... they rattle in the glove box door

my soloution that i am trying is, i have stuck 4 1cmx1cmx1cm patches of stick on foam on the glove box door

why, to put a bit of pressure on the door so it cant move, this putting a touch of preassure on teh locking pins and hopefully stopping the rattle!!

failing that it may be the mechanisim in the glove box door, if it is, i may look further into it, but i dobut it... it doesnt annoy me that much, i can live with it... *turns stereo up*

Hi.

I had that problem few days after pick up mine.

The locking pin nearest to passenger's door was not closing properly.

When I found that, I needed to close it several times strongly.

Actually it's perfect.

Regards,

carib

Guess What?

Trish's CW has that glovebox rattle too (otherwise the car is as tight as a drum) I am going to try the little rubber pads as per Ian's fix today..

Those sort of noises don't worry Trish but they drive me batty ( explains a lot doesn't it)
