I think it that picture isn't a picture of an actual future i30. I think it's a Photoshop. But of course I could be wrong.

I suspect you may be right, accim, I notice it's the February edition too so more than likely an artist's impression of what it will look like. Motoring magazines are notorious for doing this.... :undecided:

Haha, maybe someone else has the same name. Though, I find all of the Top Gear guys having some issues with Korean vehicles. As if they were still in time when there were Hyundai Ponys and Accents. James May, if you ask me, has the least problems with them.. Of course, I might be wrong.

If that is the case - then why do they use a KIA Ceed for the celebrity fast lap drive.

TG's review of the i30 was VERY complimentary when the car was first introduced and surprised me at time as they had not been good to Hy before!

Probably to make fun of it :D Just joking. I would say to see how "celebrity" handle the "normal" and non-sporty cars.

Why do I think so? Because they used next cars:

- Chevrolet Lacetti
(http://www.kaliteliresimler.com/data/media/1733/lacetti4d-2008-sedan-1.jpg)

and

- Suzuki Liana
(http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4101/4768197786_415f5f57dc_b.jpg)

The Liana is actual from TG, I think.

Now tell me.. Do you think they loved those two cars so much? :)

Hello all

It's been a while since I last posted anything, but I have been regularly viewing this excellent site.

Well, the new 2012 i30, inevitable I suppose, and a very nice looking car too.
But of course I still love our 2011 i30.

This new i30 reminds me of a (dare I say it) of the new Vauxhall Astra.
Any way it will be very interesting to see one for real next year.

Bye for now

Thanks accim  :brilliant:

Mostly impressed .. first impressions are a nice incremental update... BUT....

It will take a while for that big dip in the crease line below the mirror to grow on me I think... :undecided:

Edit: I like the new grill shape (a lot better than the Mazda 3 for example)

Takes on the current Hyundai look. Like the daytime running lights. Like the happy grill. Looks a bit like a Pug.

inside looks posh (although it is the high end model) Dash is ace.

Where is the important I30 (Ie the CW )

I see there is a slot for a CD/DVD above the main screen. Who still uses these today?  Most people use iPod connections or a USB memory stick - far more convenient.

The CD slot in my i30 remains unused.

I wonder when the new model gets here, whether it will be possible to buy a cw SLX diesel manual?
For some strange reason, in the current line up (in Australia) it's not possible. It's auto only in SLX trim  :(
I don't understand why they would make it any different to the hatch as far as specification goes.

If Tassie is anything to go by the SX seems to outsell the SLX and SR by a very big number .. There would be at least 5 times as many standard SX i30's (CW and Hatch) on the road down here than SLX/SR combined...

I assume they will  just stick the new front on the old CW rear and add a bit of a crease and tweak the rear lights.. :winker:

As I was sitting at the dealers, the salesman got the call from this woman, who wanted to know how much will the new i30 cost and when she could buy it  But, he had no info about the car. He just said, it will be here probably in 2013 (but has no clue about the CW) and that was it. The only info he had was, it will cost more then current i30.

All in all the car looks great (to me). To me it also looks a bit like Peugeot 308 (http://images.avto.net/5116954/2_530.jpg), but much better. Although it is very hard to make a car nowadays, that doesn't look at least a bit, like some other one. But I wonder how it will look in some more "affordable" equipment. Ehh..I know how it will look. Great!

As before when you had:

Well, I like it, even the swoopy low bit at the mirrors.....

And I wonder if it's coming with a decent slush box instead of the old one that was stolen from Noah's Ark?

Also I spy a heap of extra buttons on the steering wheel, I wonder what they do?  :undecided:

Hmmm, keyless start too.......

I'm glad I got mine when I did... this one looks like it was designed by a teenager brought up on transformer toys.  Too many swoops and curves for mine. I'd prefer they look more to EU than Asia for their designs.

I prefer the simple refined (if conservative) look of the original.

But I don't think the two-bar grille does it any favours but would be better if horizontal.

Hyundai needs to keep up with current and future trends (Ford Focus, Mazda 3 etc...) and I think this latest incarnation does that  :winker:

Surely not? Maybe the original but this looks like pure oriental copy stuff. I've been looking at Japanese design for a long time and this looks typical (yeah I know its Korean but after all they are looking at topling Toyota so sensible they copy the Japanese), they (Asian designers) just can't help themselves with the flashy gizmos. A sort of throw-back to the American 60s cars. They on the other hand were original and in a (unique at the time) class of their own.

The best Japanese designs came from Bertone's Mazdas in the 70s. And he wasn't Asian.

And IMHO the Germans have it right, currently.

Yeah maybe... but whomever determines the design direction is certainly not looking at MB, BMW, Audi or VW for inspiration.

Frankfurt motor show 2011 - Hyundai i30
12 September 2011

Quote
This is Hyundai’s new i30, which will aim to offer Golf- and Focus-beating space and a higher-quality interior, when it goes on sale in spring 2012.

Designed at Hyundai’s European studios near Frankfurt, the latest i30 gets a new, longer chassis that’s designed to free up cabin space. Hyundai has yet to announce precise dimensions, but the company’s chief designer, Thomas Bürkle, has admitted that the wheelbase has stretched slightly for the new generation. Luggage space has increased too, by around 10%.

Will it be available in cw, or will they keep that for the i40? I saw the live feed from germany somewhere online, when it was revealed but the audio did not work at first, wasn't anyone mentioning it.

Don't know the details (price) but if there was a nice looking cw, I might find the i30 more interesting than the i40. It seems lots of the great features of i40 is available for next generation i30 as well. The i40 is an awesome stationcar, but the size/length of the car I'm not sure about. When I went to the premier here, kinda figured out I'd rather have an ix35 if I was to trade in.

When I went to the premier here, kinda figured out I'd rather have an ix35 if I was to trade in.

I guess there must be a CW too. But you never know, they just might, as you've said, pass that job to i40CW. I asked my dealer the same question and he also didn't know. He said it should be, but doesn't know if nor when.

But I have some good news about the grill. At least that sounds good news to me, as I didn't like the front grill that much. There will be 2 versions of the grill:

This one (type B) - which we've already seen:

Hehe, thanks :) Well the car is really interesting and honestly speaking, I found the source on one of the Slovenian automobile forums. A lot of interesting comments -> it's hard to believe that BMW/VW/Renault..., owners, like the car and are asking about approx prices, when it will come out and things like that.

Looks like the type A front grille version. I quite like the new rear lights.

Won't be changing my car for a while yet though. :)

Great vid, accim.  Bit more interesting than the one I posted !

Maybe in a couple of years I'll get one - but by then they'll have version 3 on the blocks. Or I may get an i40, though it is stupidly big for my needs.

Oh well, we'll see.

Title: VW boss discovering the i30
Post by: swiss_i30cw on September 24, 2011, 21:19:57
Martin Winterkorn makes a short visit of the i30 et the IAA in Frankfurt one week ago and he seems impressed by the good workmanship "Gut verarbeitet" and the absence of sound at the steering wheel. In german he says "BMW can es nicht, wir können es nicht, warum kann das er" which translated gives "BMW can't do it, we can't do it, why can they do it?"

I think this has to do with the inner space respective to the total length of the car and to the dead angle due to the A pillar and side mirror.

Many people on Slovenian automobile forums saw that video too and were very impressed. As I've said. A lot of people started inquiring about the prices and the date, when the car should be here. That Martin Winterkorn, seemed quite nervous to me. In a good way for Hyundai and in a bad way for VW and other brands..

There are owners of the vehicles like MY10' Opel Astra, MY09' VW Golf, MY07 BMW 3 and so on, which are really interested in buying that car. It's like world being upside-down  Never in the world I would have thought to see such reactions from people like them. Makes you feel proud you are driving a Hyundai  ;)

More about that video:

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/09/volkswagens_winterkorn_rattled_by_non_rattling_hyundai_i30_this_could_cost_careers-html/ (http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/09/volkswagens_winterkorn_rattled_by_non_rattling_hyundai_i30_this_could_cost_careers-html/)

I must say this video was a great "marketing" move (by I don't know who), because more and more people are wondering about that amazing Hyundai. Over here, the Volkswagen is "the car" for most. It's like some kind of "god of all cars". In the end it doesn't even matter if he liked the color that much or if it was some important mechanical thing. When they saw a "VW master" with that expression on his face, they started thinking about switching sides.

Seems like it's going to be a great car. Should also have a lot of equipment and options, which Hyundai never had before.

But still, I find current i30CW with 1.6 CRDi engine, "best pick" for me. Don't need anything more for now. If the price of the new one was close to current one, it might come in consideration - in let's say 5 years (of course CW), but dunno.. This one really has everything I need/want from the car for the reasonable price. Of course, it can always be better, faster,.., but.. If in 2012, the new and the old one were available at the same time, I would probably still go for the old one if it was cheaper. The engines are almost the same (nothing specially powerful) and don't really need other new things, that will be available in the new one. I know adding those things can cost a fortune and in the and it also means more expensive comprehensive insurance and so on.

But don't get me wrong.. It looks great and I don't doubt it will feel the same. Great job Hyundai  :goodjob: Amazing improvement looking back 20 y. ago.

What did I say wrong?

What I ment was, how much Hyundai improved and evolved in 20 years. I know they've been around for much longer, but I usually have that Hyundai Pony from 90's in mind..

This (http://www.1stcarsinfo.com/carsimagesinfo/2011/09/1991-Hyundai-Pony-Car-Model.jpg) vs this (http://img.auto.cz/news/img/galleries/2011-40/100_4e8b12b0ca408.jpg)

We haven't had any other (older) Hyundai's around here.. As a matter a fact, we didn't have any other foreign brands. Yugoslavian (we lived in Yugoslavia before), Russian, stuff like that. It was a different political regime  :)

Well everything changed after 2006/2007, when the New Santa Fe and the i30 came out. But other cars weren't as bad either.. They were just a bit "behind". I've had Accent 00 and Elantra 04, Accent 06.. All were great cars but always seemed to be just a bit late. We've also had the Santa Fe 2004 and it was good, but not even close to the 2006-> model.

I must say I/we've (closer family) owned Hyundai's in different eras 1990's -> 2010's and if you owned one after another, you could just see and feel how they were updating the models through these years. I would divide Hyundai in 5 periods. Before 90's, 1990-2000, 2000-2006, 2006-2011 and 2011-> (new i40, i30...). Each period was started with much better model then previous one. Giant leap for Hyundai, were (IMHO) the last two.

I have a friend  :P and they had a 1996 Accent, the real old shape, manual.
It was an ex hire car when they bought it second hand.
They put two or three of their kids through it, never missed a beat and they sold it with about 250,000 kms, still going strong.
The build quality wasn't a patch on today & the materials were cheap, but gee, they were pretty bullet-proof and I think really helped establish Hyundai's reputation in Oz.
After that, they just got better with each model.
The same friend now has two (old shape) Accents, 2005 & 2006 for the kids & they just keep going (the cars, not the kids).
And then there's my daughter's 2006 (new shape) Accent which is totally reliable against all odds  :)

I lived in the Middle East for 12 years commencing 1985 and bought a Hyundai Stellar 1.6 GLS Auto when I first arrived. It impressed in the showroom - but not on the road. Harsh engine, poor bodywork, lousy ride, fragile upholstery, the paint badly weathered in the sun after 18 months and it drank petrol. Fortunately petrol was cheaper than drinking water so that could be overlooked.

After that experience I didn't think I would ever, ever, ever buy another Hyundai - but here I am delighted with my i30.

If the following article is accurate - the 2012 Kia Ceed is taking a much more conservative approach to styling than the imminent 2012 i30.

It would appear that the major upgrade - based on the 2012 i30 will not appear until 2013

But that isn't the 2012 Kia Ceed. That's 2010 Ceed - came out before the face lift of the i30. We've had it for more then a year already I think. Yeah, I remember seeing that gear knob in this Ceed first. Then it was used in the face-lifted models of i30 in 2011.

We're talking about this Ceed, right?

Title: Re: 2012 i30 - REVEALED!!
Post by: AlanHo on January 05, 2012, 09:44:13
Some of the differences I noted compared with my present i30 are

* It has dual climate control - so the wife can bake while I freeze

* The electric parking brake

* Built-in sat-nav. For me this is a negative because I prefer my existing Garmin Nuvi for which I get free map updates 3 times a year and I can connect it to my computer to download waypoints and routes planned in advance. I cannot do this with a built-in sat-nav. I bet map updates will be expensive too.

* The engine temperature and Fuel gauges are now linear digital display

* The power and cigar lighter sockets are now mounted higher up - as is the USB socket.

* The 17" alloy wheels still have the dreaded chrome inserts - and the slots in the spokes are even narrower making cleaning a nightmare

* THere are 3 mystery brackets on the underside of the hatch cover

* I'm not sure where the computer trip and fuel consumption info will be displayed

* Push button engine stop/start - but will it be with a key or security card?

* i can't see where the cruise control is hiding.

My dealer - who has seen the car and attended an info seminar at Hyundai - is impressed with it. However - he believes that Hyundai will adopt the Audi/BMW/Mercedes/Ford etc. policy of pricing each engine and basic trim variant to which cutomers will add their choice from a wide range of factory fitted add-on packs. This will make it more difficult for him to stock cars ahead of sales because he will have to guess what future customers might buy.

Agree with the above mentioned points, especially the Garmin satnav. I have the same deal. Also don't like the pricing policy. The car should have variants and options available to add, if you want them. I like to walk into any dearlership and know that the car is basically the same.

Dazz

You can only do this if you have installed the Garmin mapping software on the PC. I doubt that this is covered in your Nuvi users manual. I use Garmin Mapsource - but this is an old program no longer supported by Garmin and now superceded by Garmin Base Camp which performs a similar function. The advantage of Base Camp is that it can upload the maps and waypoints from your Nuvi whereas Mapsource has to have the maps loaded independently from the Garmin site when you update maps on your Nuvi.

I'm no expert - but you are welcome to PM me with any questions if you are struggling. No promises - but I just may be able to help.   Once you get used to planning trips on the PC you will wonder how you managed without it. Another advantage is that you can open a Garmin map on the PC - browse to a place you are interested in - click on "View in Google Earth" and within seconds you are looking at the satellite view of the identical area. We always do this when planning holidays to see what the area is like.

Prices in EUR and short catalogue:

http://hyundai.be/Car.aspx?modelID=23 (http://hyundai.be/Car.aspx?modelID=23)

Another catalogue:

http://www.hyundai.cz/data/files/pdf/katalog/katalog-nova-i30.pdf (http://www.hyundai.cz/data/files/pdf/katalog/katalog-nova-i30.pdf)

Like the i40 it will not be cheap, but it has beautiful exterior, nice, practical and spacious interior. Last 5 years I have been desperately looking for a nice AND practical car with good quality, spacious interior and boot but this is the first one for me which seems to be perfect.
When I saw the first pictures I went to the Frankfurt Motorshow in September to see it and I was totally impressed. This weekend I went to Bruxelles to the Motorshow, mainly to see more variants from it.
The only things what I am afraid of are the isolation of the road noise (the Hankook tyres does not seem to good on the car...) and the quality of the chassis painting. (Earlier I had a Kia Cee'd for half year, but the painting was really sensitive, and the tyre noise was terrible despite the Michelin tyres)

However seeing the catalogue it seems that the fuel consumption rates are underestimated a bit. It is common for all European cars, but for the Kia Cee'd 1.6 CRDI the urban 4.2l according to the catalogue was not impossible.
Now the Hyundai states that it is 3.7l on urban area with the same 1.6 CRDI...

However I would be happier with a turbo charged petrol engine, but unfortunately there is only the normal 1.6 GDI for it. Let's hope that later it  will got a weakest version of the 1.6 GDI 200LE turbocharged engine which will go to the Veloster from this year.

Welcome Fabris Thanks for he links and info  :goodjob:

How much dearer are those prices in Euros than the existing equivilents?

Why aren't you keen on the diesel? (they are a excellent motor) and the GDi are a bit of a win/win too (more power + better economy..) The models of Hyundai I have tested so far with the GDi motor (particularly the i45) are very responsive...

Here is the new UK brochure.

http://www.hyundai-car.co.uk/newi30/brochure/newi30.pdf (http://www.hyundai-car.co.uk/newi30/brochure/newi30.pdf)

At first glance it would appear that on-the-road prices in the UK have increased by £2000 to £2500 compared with the previous model in Dec 2010. It is difficult to make an exact comparison because there are now 4 versions (rather than 3) and equipment levels across the range are higher. The style Sat Nav version is £1000 more than the Style version. A lot of money for a sat-nav and reversing camera.

CO2 levels are impressive - except for the auto versions where the new 6 speed auto has not made a great deal of difference - dropping the 1.6CRDi auto from 150 to 145.  I would have expected more from a 6 speed box.  The new Style model equivalent to my Premium old model has dropped the CO2 from 119 to 100 - hence no road tax.

I am pleased to see that 17" wheels are no longer specified - the top end Style version has 16" wheels.  All versions appear to have a temporary spare wheel.

The same radio seems to be fitted across the range - it has a CD player which surprises me. Who uses CD's in the era of USB and iPods?

Some of the wish lists posted on the forum are now standard on the Style version - such as :-

Power output in luggage compartment
Auto headlights
Dual zone climate control
Elec folding wing mirrors with direction indicators
Front and rear parking sensors
Cornering lights
Luggage net and hooks
One touch up and down control for all windows
Rain sensing wipers
Cruise control with speed limiter

The 1.6 petrol engine is now restricted to the Active model. The Style model (Equivalent of previous Premium model) has a choice of a 1.4 petrol or two 1.6 diesels (110 and 128PS)
The auto box is not offered on the 128PS engine.

Comparing my 2011 1.6 CRDi Premium with the new 1.6 CRDi Style produces the following comparison

I would gain :-

Bluetooth connectivity
Emergency stop signal (whatever that is?)
Hill assisted start control
LED Daytime running lights
Cruise control with speed limiter ( I paid extra for a dealer fitted unit on my car which does not have a speed limiter function)
Flex Steer
Electric parking brake
12v Power outlet in the boot
Auto De-fog system for front screen (Whatever that is?)
Chrome exterior belt line (Ooooh - big deal!!!)
Dual Zone Climate Control (My car has single zone)
LED direction indicators in door mirrors
Front parking sensors
Headlights with static cornering lights (????)
Luggage net and hooks
One touch Up/Down on all windows (My car has one touch down on front windows - but not up)
Options :-
The option for a more powerful 128PS Diesel engine at £300 extra cost - more bhp but same torque still with CO2 at 100
Touch screen sat nav and reversing camera for £1000 extra (I don't think so thank you Hyundai - too expensive)

I would lose :-

Auto dim rear mirror (Sad if true)
Full size spare alloy (I am happy with a temporary wheel though)
17" alloy wheels (Hoorah - I would prefer 16")
The ability to have a 1.6 petrol engine if I wanted one instead of a diesel
The list price has gone up by £2545 since I bought my car 16 months ago.

I would gain :-

Emergency stop signal (whatever that is?)  I think the brake lights flash in an emergency stop situation

Cruise control with speed limiter ( I paid extra for a dealer fitted unit on my car which does not have a speed limiter function)
I wonder if this is like a speed alert (which my Hybrid has ...) Very annoying I turned it off  :undecided:

Auto De-fog system for front screen (Whatever that is?) Sound good to me  :happydance:

Headlights with static cornering lights (????) They turn with the steering to illuminate the corner better

It will be interesting to see what spec Australia gets. They will be different somehow no doubt....
Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) is a feature that is in the i40 already and what it does is when you make an emergency stop & the onboard computer detects that, it flashes the rear brake lights on and also the rear hazard flashers to warn drivers behind you that you are stopping suddenly
Static cornering lights light the way around a corner and are a fixed light, whereas dynamic bending lights move with the steering.

My last Audi had a speed limiter on the cruise control. You set the maximum speed you wanted to go - the road speed limit for example - and no matter how hard you press on the accelerator - the car will not exceed the set figure. Jolly useful to avoid speeding fines.

The cornering lights are said to be static - no mention of turning with the steering wheel.

Static cornering lights seem to be either an increase in L/R headlamp intensity when cornering, and/or activation of the corresponding L/R foglight, all when turning the steering wheel more than 85o

Glove box ;)

Just seen this on the website, surely 17" will be an option on the wheels, via accessories. Looks a good spec list, even for the classic

Imagine Active will sell best, and a good price on it too.
Think this pricing helps with the arugment RE i30 estate being too close to the i40 tourer tho.

Just seen.. no leather upholstery option :O ? ?:(

I hope they don't move the price up too much. They obviously have to keep it under i40 pricing but that gives them a bit of scope.
And because they are so popular they will be starting to attract a premium.
I knew we should have all posted how bad they were.  :scared:

After watching the different cataloges it seems none of them are complete (not all interior colours, exterior colours etc.) I think we should wait some weeks to get a fully detailed catalogue.

Additional pictures and data about the Korean version, but it seems almost the same like the European:

Welcome Fabris Thanks for he links and info  :goodjob:

How much dearer are those prices in Euros than the existing equivilents?

Why aren't you keen on the diesel? (they are a excellent motor) and the GDi are a bit of a win/win too (more power + better economy..) The models of Hyundai I have tested so far with the GDi motor (particularly the i45) are very responsive...

Not at all.  It is hard to compare the current and new i30 because the different equipment levels, I have  just realized that the new Style is more expensive than the current Style but it is normal for a new car.

I do not have problems specifically with the CRDI (it was powerful and economical except winter time), because I generally do not like the diesel engines, this is why I was not happy with my 1.6 CRDI.
On the other side the normal petrol engines are too weak for me, this is why I am waiting for a turbocharged 1.6 GDI with about 220-240Nm at low RPM.

Not a car I will be buying; don't like the styling one bit.
Do you not sometimes find that at first sight you may not like the look of a particular car - but as the weeks and months go by it "grows on you" and you then appreciate the styling. Conversely - there have been times when I have waxed lyrical about the look of a new car - until I see it in the flesh when disappointment hits me.

Like you - I am not comfortable with the new styling - too many swoops and curves for my liking - but gone are the days when I allow myself to be either lured or put off by the superficial. The i40 in the flesh looks much better than in photos - I imagine that will apply to the new i30.

Hyundai are trying to stand out from the crowd and have succeeded. What really counts for me at the end of the day is the overall cost, performance, comfort and reliability of a vehicle - styling is secondary. I have no doubt that the new i30 will build on the fine standards set by our present cars and it will be one that gets even more appreciated. That is exactly why Ford and Volkswagen in particular are sniping - they are worried.

Hence the styling is not going to put me off ordering one - given that a test drive lives up to expectations.

For those who keep waiting for the CW version, I'm starting to think it may actually be dropped from the line (or is in the process of being dropped).  Apparently http://thekoreancarblog.com/2011/12/usmeet-2013-hyundai-elantra-hatchback/ (http://thekoreancarblog.com/2011/12/usmeet-2013-hyundai-elantra-hatchback/) claims that the new Elantra Hatchback is going to replace the Elantra Touring (or is likely to) and this means that the North American market will switch from only having the CW available to only having the hatchback available.  Could be a sign of a more singular design platform for the i30?

I love the extra room of the CW and don't want to see it disappear, but I also understand that the metropolitan marketplace will look to smaller cars and in the years to come population numbers predict a huge shift to the metropolitan areas.

Also, for those who have mentioned the lack of CC on the steering wheel, I have seen shots of the wheel that clearly has CC - no bluetooth controls in those shots that I could see.

I see that besides:
 •Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)
Anti lock brake system (ABS)

it also has:
•Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) see below
•Brake Assist System (BAS) see below

Vehicle Stability Management System (VSM)
VSM optimizes the function of all active and passive safety features. VSM incorporates ESC, TCS, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist. The comprehensive Vehicle Stability Management system links and prepares all safety systems in potential collision situations.

Brake Assist
In emergency braking situations, many drivers may not apply sufficient braking force to achieve the shortest possible stopping distance. Brake Assist helps detect emergency braking and ensures the maximum braking force is immediately applied to minimize stopping distances.

I don't understand the preference for the expensive high voltage Hid's (Xenon) headlights.

I paid an arm and a leg extra for them on my last Audi and thought they were great at the time.

However - if I am honest - the halogen headlights on my i30 seem to me to be just as effective.  I would not consider paying extra for the Xenon lights again - to my mind they are not necessary and a status gimmick.

I also cannot understand why boy racers buy blue headlight bulbs to pretend that they have Xenon lights - the blue coating cuts down on the light being emitted which seems rather daft to me.

Old fart rant now over................ :whistler:

Think I would just retrofit them, though with recent UK MOT law changes would need the headlight washers etc which will come added to the car.

H.I.Ds give a far better light at night time, especially on the dark back roads from personal experience.  Have them in my i30 and compared to mothers halogens there a lot lot better.

In regards to boy racers.. not sure why, but I fell victim in my last car **hangs head in shame** For the sake of a £5 it gives you that supposed expensive look.. they look naff during the day time when your whole headlamp is just reflecting blue tho...

It's really nice to see how it's built (well at least some pics of few stages). The first pic is a bit funny.. When you look at "current" i30 it seems quite modern (especially the facelift), but when parked next to the 2012 i30 it doesn't seem that modern anymore  :whistler:

I wonder what will the difference (price) be between this i30 (http://img.auto.cz/news/img/galleries/2012-06/hyi342_4f312f82726e5.jpg), this i30 (http://img.auto.cz/news/img/galleries/2012-06/24_4f312f84630ea.jpg) and this i30 (http://img.auto.cz/news/img/galleries/2012-06/hyi325_4f313fbca2776.jpg). The one on the last pic really is a looker, but the first two aren't IMHO. Well it's the same with the current i30 also, but the price range isn't that huge.

It is really good that this site gave 4 stars for the i30, because they reguralry very critical, and provide 3 stars for a lot of small family cars.

Looking at the pictures of how it is built I must say how clean the factory is and no clutter..

Thats's one of the first things I've noticed too.. Like it s a laboratory and not a factory. I know they mostly just assemble parts at that point, but still..looks very neat.

Not always the case now (the i45 Manual and Auto are about the same... )

Sooooo we got the price list in Slovenia for the i30 2012 :) It started selling today. I did a quick comparison of the prices and it's like this:

- i30 2012 1.6 CRDi 110hp, Comfort equip: 17.290 EUR
+ metal color: 350 EUR
= 17.640 EUR
= 14.745,28 GBP
= 22.369,28 AUD

- i30 2011 1.6 CRDi 115hp, Comfort equip: 14.690 EUR
+ metal color: 350 EUR
= 15.040 EUR
= 12.571,94 GBP
= 19.072,22 AUD

That comfort equipment is about the same as in the "2011" i30. Oh and yes, the xenon lights are NOT in that price, but you do get the LED DRL lights.

The difference is +2.600 EUR (= 2.173,34 GBP = 3.297,06 AUD) at the moment. I'm sure there will be some discounts in future, but for now (probably 1 year) there are none. And if you add xenon lights and some other gadgets (side indicators in the mirrors, auto folding mirrors, keyless start,..) the price is 1.700 EUR higher. Not to mention, that there are no alloys in that price, but 15" steel wheels and so on..

So it's like I expected and what I had in mind when purchasing my i30CW. My budget was 16.000 EUR and I got it for 15.700 EUR, but the new i30CW, will be (if the prices stay like this) at least around 18.500-19.000 EUR. And with new, I wouldn't get much more then different (better) look of the exterior/interior and of course some improvements in handling, materials.. But the engine is basically the same (at least the power), I would still have 6.sp gearbox, I wouldn't have "stock" xenon lights....

Okay, I know there are already some owners of the new i30 and there were quite some pictures of the new model as well, but still..I went for a test drive the other day, it was a 1.4 petrol 99 hp, Comfort equipment.

The car goes great, the 6th gear is great news for 1.4 petrol engine, because it improves the fuel consumption and the car is quieter on the highway, which is great. For example, my father in law has previous i30 1.4 petrol and the only "fault" in his opinion, is the loudness on the highway. But then again, he usually turns the music volume up on the highway, so in the end, it doesn't even bother him that much... But really, by making the 1.4 petrol quieter, they made the car even more "usable". I would still like to test the 1.6 petrol (135hp). The diesel probably goes about the same as the old one.

Here are few pics.. (you know I must post them)

PS: These 15" wheels are horrible, but we get 16" alloys only with max equipment.... Unfortunately no 17" here

You've got eye for details. Honestly, I haven't even noticed that  :) Yes, it doesn't have indicators in the mirrors, nor does it have electrical folding mirrors and no rear electrical windows either..  Don't know why, because mine, which is also comfort, has all of those things

Is that the base model - as already mentioned no side indicator repeaters in the mirrors and no front parking sensors. However - your pics show the front grill that applies to the UK Active model which has quite decent 16" alloys.

That is something I dont quite get with the UK range, the base model gets a colour coded painted band in the bumper (where the reg plate sits) but it goes to black in the higher models.  I think it looks better with the painted band :undecided:
