Don't need a stand. Just hang it from a beam or something.

I went for a quick ride today, 15 minutes of going up-hill in granny gear, just to make sure everything was working properly.  It was, but I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest.  Coming down the hill was fun!!  Next time I hope to get a little further up the hill.

I shall have to get on a bike again one day. Has been 9 years since I last rode a bike.  It's a long story, but I quit riding on the advice of our local doctor.  You see, I had just bought my daughter a new bike and was into a fitness stage of my life, playing golf every week, mowing the lawn with a push mower and sneaking a ride on my daughter's bike whenever I could.

Then I got this horrible food poisoning (well that's what I and the doctor thought it was) and about a week later things were still not good.   Still managed to mow the lawn and ride the bike.  Doctor redid the blood tests and this time something showed up.

He asked me to come down to the local hospital for a chat.  At my earliest convenience, I got on the bike and peddled down to see him, meeting him on the road as he went home for lunch.  He revealed the findings as a possible heart attach telling me to "... get up to the hospital and get of that bloody bike and stay off it!"

So, you see, for 9 years, I've been doing what the doctor said.  Well, that's my excuse.

I might use your doctor.
I haven't ridden a bike for a herd of donkeys' years.
Where I live, as soon as I go out of my front door every way is either up or down, meaning that when I ride home it's either down or up, with lots of ups and downs in the middle bit as well.
But where I'm moving to it's as flat as a pancake.
I've already sourced an old racing bike so will start off very slowly to begin with and possibly after a few months, increase my riding distance to a hundred metres and even beyond.

I wanna see you ride up the Southern Outlet, Jamie....

The Southern Outlet would be a piece of cake compared to getting there in the first place.

Dave, get yourself a bike roller for the rear wheels and then you can practice at home before venturing out into the world of ups and downs

That looks like fun.
Instead of watching the green hills roll by, I can watch blue family movies while I ride.  :D

Aldi has them sometimes for $59 or $69. I bought one a year ago. Great.
But rollers need a road tyre. They're very noisy on knobby tyres. I had to buy a tyre.

Couldn't hear the porn. :P TV.

sorry about that Bob, i have blood tests about once or twice a year, riding the bike helps my health.
my older cousin ( 72 ) was telling me he had a heart attack &  was not aware at first but did not  feel well he was out with his four gran sons told them he was going to phone triple 0. an ambo came took him to hosp they confirmed he had a heart attack. he had treatment & ok.

No issues now John.  9 years later and plugging along quite well.  I was thinking the other day that bike riding in retirement might well be good for me, along with 2 rounds of golf a week.

Been out this morning doing a gentle 15 miles.

As i've not been on my bike for some 4 months the body and mind were willing but the legs not, (and i'm saddle sore!).

Need to build up over the coming weeks as there is a 60 mile route i want to do over the easter period.

So am i.
good you got out for that ride Eye!
i try to do 16k a day had a day's break after that 42k.
the riding group said they have never had a member experience a heart attack. as jokingly i asked. then i read, Bob's post, also my m8 in sydney is a trainer & box's & 63, he had his heart beat get stuck ( like having your throttle stuck on full ) but as he is a trainer & has saw this with athletes  a lot he went straight to his sports Doctor and they. fix it.

I thought about cycling today.

Same here, then I came to my senses and did some recycling instead (much easier).

Yep, but I don't really think of it as a pushbike anymore as I converted it to an ebike a few years ago.

It's a lot of fun and helps with an old injury which I used to agrevate if I rode any distance which was usually any time I went for a ride as I live a few k's out of town.

40 - 50 k's usually pulls me up as another reminder of my youth starts to ache (wrists) and of course the kids are usually cooked by then as well  :sweating:

Lived on the things a a kid. Best thing I ever had as a child.

Cheers

Eye that's a good distance, I ride 16k to 30k depending, & the ride I went on was 42k but your talking miles. How long did 15 mile easy take? Any big hill's the riding were iam will always involve hill's & if with the group the hills will be dirt tracks . I just got some slightly bigger knobby tyres to put on same wheels see how that goes As a lot cheaper than buying a mountain bike with suspension .
