gday

i'm looking at a set of 18 inch alloys for my wifes '08 i30 slx, specs are 18 x 7.5, 5 x 114.3 pcd, hub bore 67.1mm and +45mm offset, now from what i have worked out the inside of the wheel should only sit 13.8 mm closer to the inside of the car and the outside of the wheel should only sit 24.05mm further out (compared to the stock 16x6, +50mm offset stock wheels). does all that sound right?

does anyone know if there will be any clearance issues? ie. will i have to roll the guards?

also will i have to buy and fit the steering rack spacers that are required for the stock 17 inch wheels? because the new wheels with there deeper offset compared to the 17 inchers should sit 4.65mm further away from the inside of the wheel arch than the 17's would (17" - +56mm offset, 18" - +45mm offset, also taking into account that the 18's are half an inch wider).

any help would be appreciated

cheers
Bretto

Hi Bretto..

Most of the "boys" with the 18" wheels are off working to pay for them ... Hopefully you should get some helpful advice if you hang fire for a day or two...

P.S. I modded your heading to help get you a result (hope you don't mind)

and where is the photo of these fully sick wicked wheels?  :whistler:

Thanks for the comments :D should be ordering them on Monday after I spend a lot of time over the weekend measuring and scratching my head. Had a quick look this arvie and the gaurds on the i30 are massive! The only drama I can see is that on the front the standard 16s sit pretty close to the outside edge of the innergaurd but there is a fair bit of vertical room between the top of the tyre and the bottom of the outergaurd. Should be sweet!! Reckon I'll get the gaurds rolled anyway (it's only like $40 a guard at a place locally) just to be on the safe side, this should give a bit of room to lower it an inch or two down the track as well.

The only other drama I can think of would be the tyres scraping on the inner gaurds when steering is at full lock. What do you's think? Maybe get some of those steering rack spacers, I think there only $6 each or something from Hyundai?

what is the offset and width of those?
and do you have the steering rack spacers fitted? or what wheels did yours have on it from standard were they the 17s? maybe it already had the spacers fitted?

i'm just peaking out a bit cause its the wifes car and if she hears a tyre scraping she'll think the worlds coming to an end  :p

I'm running a 225/45/17 tyre with 17.5" rims 45+ offset.   be carefull not to go any wider than a 225/45 because they will rub on the rear inner mud guard,my tyres slightly rub if i have a 5 people in the car and a full tank.  [but im lowered 2" all round]:whistler: the 45+ offset also causes the tyres to sit dead level with the front mud guards on the outer edge of the rims.  the rears miss only just on my car because its so low the rear tyres lean in at the top [- camber] but still rub slightly.  :whistler: :whistler:  have a look at my car in pics,my hatch pics and mods, this should give you a better idea of how the car will look with bigger tyres and rims.

do you have any tyre wear dramas on the rear being so low with mass camber? vy/vz commowhores had issues when lowered at the rear with independent suspension, and the fix was a aftermarket camber/castor kit allowing the excess camber in the rear to be adjusted out of them, have you had any dramas like this on our cars? how are your rear tyres wearing? cause i thinking i'll see how the new wheels fill out the gaurds and if still not happy i reckon i'm gonna drop it a bit, i30's got massive gaurds for  little car. :faint: what brand of springs did you use? did you use stock shocks and struts?

the rear suspension has toe adjustment, so no scrubbed tyres.  :goodjob2: :goodjob: my struts and shocks are the factory ones still, but the guys at pedders said i would be waisting my money to change the originals.  my driving style is what kills my tyres, front and rear.  :whistler: :Drive: :whistler:
