Hi

Just after any thoughts of worth this is worth fixing or some major issue would be the underlying cause.

All of a sudden lost over a litre of oil in a 2012 HYUNDAI i30 FD 2.0L G4GC Euro 4 DOHC 16v Petrol 4cyl 105kW Wagon FWD 120000 kms, was low speed short trip so wasn't running with extremely low oil.

Topped it up with 1 litre drove 2 km home and lost likely just over a litre. Ran well no noises and or issues heading home. Serviced since new and only owner.

Have had a clicking noise mainly when cold every ?10th start lasts about 30 seconds near timing belt local mechanic couldn't diagnose.

Here is video of leak when car turned on so only leaking when under pressure.

Oil Leak 1

Oil leak 2

Any ideas where it would be leaking from ? crank pully etc..

Any idea what would have caused it, was thinking of pulling it done a bit more to see where it's really coming form then doing seals etc just after any thoughts, thanks.

Mate, I'm sorry that you didn't get any replies to your problem.  I'm not as active on technical 'advice' as I used to be.

That is one serious oil leak.  Have you found out what the issue was?  Timing case oil seal?

Just an update on this may not be 100% correct in terminology / figures however:

Mechanic replaced Crank Shaft seal as source of leak along with Timing Belt etc as all were saturated in oil unfortunately they had been replaced 20k ago. He didn't believe there was much play in the crank shaft at that time.

Called and advised ready to go 100 meters down the road funny noise, engine light and oil leak.

Dropped sump and as expected thrust washes in sump and ? 2.2mm play at which point I wrote off the car however he was confident he could repair.

New thrust washers reduced play to ? .5 mm, cleaned up resealed and believes should get a good few years out of it, time will tell although has been good so far.

This guy is an old school mechanic so I have reasonable faith and minimal charge for the latter work.

We had a ticking noise every now and again on cold start that would resolve in 10 - 30 seconds which hasn't been heard since, so wondering if this may have been an indication of what was coming.
