Hey guys, I am considering some new wheels for my SLX i30. I have the 16" rims that come standard on the car, but was looking to see how people rate there after market wheels (if any at all), and to see if there are any traps that new wheels could get me into (ie steering rack etc).

So, I am still considering to even get aftermarket wheels, but share your happiness and/or sadness stories, and what I should look out for :)

make sure you get the right offset LOL i decided to get a "tough offset" on my other car so the wheels sat flush with the gaurds... FAIL

back scrubbed, and front sat heaps out... so to fix it i had to get camber adjustable coil overs for it, dial in some camber on the front, then i had to roll the rear gaurds (dodgy i know)

i now know for this car ill do it properly and not get an offset 20 further out than it should be!!!

BTW 18/19'' really suit the i30!!!

I was looking at Tempe Tyres, a wheel and tyre place (funnily enough in Tempe, Sydney). Possibly these http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_closeup.asp?part=&part_no=1434 in either 17 or 18" packages. I don't want cheapies that will crack or anything. And 19" seems a little too massive!!

I was looking at the bobjane site yesterday and like these.
http://www.bobjane.com.au/wheelset-details/wheelsetID/654/idm/15/ispt/Wheels/isu/18.html?sid=tahj3csgfv4e6741

I got no idea about tyres and sizes etc ...can I use the OEM rubber on these rims ,like just swap it over to the new rims ?? ,not after low profile or wider or any thing like that, as I need to fit snow chain and don't need the drama.

Also check out the virtual wheel section ,its pretty good to give you an idea what it looks like.

Here is some other pictures.

Not a bad gallery link there m8..

You can in most cases get your OEM tyres switched over to Alloys of the same size (I have done it on several cars..) The tyre place will confirm that (or otherwise) depending on the style you choose

There's a member from Brazile who has 19" rims. A bit toooooo big for my liking

Very Tempe-ting (too bad Tempe is pronounced like Temp-ee), but we see what you're getting at Dazz!!

I went 17's on mine from BJ.
I basically went in there with a few on the short list, but then asked what rims suited the i30 from a fittamet perspective.
I'm happy with my sleection in the end.
The other bonus is with BJ's you can get 12mths interest free with GE Finance....

Must admit 18's look a bit sweeter, but 19's - prol a bit big for my liking.

I can only re-iterate. BJ's would be the best place to go for mags.
They are franchises, so some will always be better than others.
Make sure you shop in person, not over the web. That way you can evaluate the individual you are dealing with.

a lot of mags at bob janes can only be bought through those particular wheel outlets,so the wheels you buy aren't on every second car you see.

If looking at the used wheel market, the i30 wheels are 5 x 114.3mm PCD with a 67.1mm centre bore. Offset 38-45 (38 sticks out a little further but OK, 45 is close to standard for the 17s).

Other vehicles with the same are Mazda 3,6 or MPV and Mitsubishi Lancer EVO, VR4 and Diamante.

Handy info Andrew although personally I wouldn't buy 2nd hand wheels* (I would be concerned they may have some invisible cracks or other damage - e.g. from a written off vehicle)

* Unless a regular member on here was selling some of course...

I bought osaka RS5 in 18 inch- the offset was a bit of on issue, it initially scraped on the brake callipers where there was a casting mark- I had to grind it down with die grinder. to get enough clearance.

I'll get around to taking some photos of my car eventually.

Here's the wheels link- they look great. http://www.lwtwheels.com/rs5.htm

Looking at these ones now. What exactly does the  18*7.5 stand for. I gather the 18 is the size, but is the 7.5 the inches for the width of the wheel itself? And are there any ways to know if the offset will be wrong just by looking at wheel specs?

yer man 18'' is the diamater and 7.5 is width!

you will need a rim that has an offset between +55 and +45 mabey down to +40 the +40 is a massive mabey tho... my +35's sit quite a bit out the gaurds! the stud pattern is 114.3x5

this picture illustrates why offset is important... this is a +35 offset notice how far out of the body work they sit
