I can't work out why the other pix won't come up I tried one of the other links and it works in the address bar

The file host's IP address for 4 of the 5 pics was in our blacklist on the server. I've removed it from the list.

Good to go for more pics now zhou :D

Which one's yours?

The red one looks like a commercial/ professional pic, and if you look at the interior pic up top, you can see a slight reflection (of him I think??) in the blue side view mirror.

Gday zhou, interesting so see the differences between the Chinese and Korean models we have in OZ. I wonder why the changes?

By the way where abouts in china are you from, my wife comes from Beijing and it's amazing how many people we meet that live "just down the road" from her parents especially given the population.

Hi,diesellover.

I am from beijing too. After the 29th Olympics, Beijing becomes a large international city with 30 million people and many many cars. Now traffice jam is the big problem of our city. Welcome to beijing, because it's  a beautiful place with many landscapes.

Well spotted. It was confusing seeing a second set of unrelated pics... which have been returned to the showroom ;)

Welcome to the club!

I'm also situated in Beijing, near the West Railway Station.

I previously assumed that the i30s produced in BJ had the same drive-train, brakes, and suspension as i30s manufactured elsewhere.

Apparently not.  According to http://chinaautoweb.com/car-models/hyundai-i30/ the rear suspension is a torsion beam, rather than the more expensive multi-link suspension used elsewhere.

Is that your understanding?

I've been doing a little searching to help answer my previous question about the rear suspension used in the i30s produced in Beijing.

About 2/3rds the way down in the following link shows pictures of the rear  suspensions used in the last 3 generations of the elantra.

http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?40832-Solid-beam-rear-suspension-WTF-HYUNDAI!!&s=63d8b0b9a109fec50f3b196125178301

The 2nd picture shows the multi-link rear suspension used in the i30s sold in most countries.

The 3rd picture is the torsion beam suspension that is used in my i30 produced in Beijing.  It will be the same suspension used in the 2011+ elantras.

Supposedly, the multi-link suspension is better in terms of handling.
The advantages of the torson beam is the lower complexity (cost), and reduced space and weight.

Wow! Interesting interior. I got used to black version, but this one's definitely interesting. It looks like a totally different car.

And what's the thing with the suspension? They use cheaper version for China or what? Why?

For more pictures of the interior of the China version have a look at http://www.beijing-hyundai.com.cn/productshow/product_i30.aspx  Google Translate and a little random clicking will help

I guess the main point of the suspension is cost cutting.  I'm no suspension expert or boy-racer so I'm not the best judge, but compared to the cars I've driven before, the China i30 handles quite well.  The same/similar suspension is used in the latest US/Australia Elantra, so it can't be that bad.

Thanks for that link.. Interesting that they have gone back to a rear suspension like that in the Elantra
