Noise is not the knocking sound from a worn out rubber bush but more a rubbing sound… seen another post here but they didn’t know what was causing and got it fixed under warranty. My i30 2012 GD has over 120,000 so no warranty fix here… any ideas? Power steering not affected but sound is not normal.

Could it be the bush wearing out and leaving debris in the chamber? When I replaced the bush it was a chunky mess. Bits of bush all around.

Can you explain what you are or not doing when the noise is there.
Such as:
Is it when you turn the steering wheel?
What location does it appear to come from?
Is it when car is moving or stopped?

My FD had the same thing. It wasn't intrusive while driving but then I'm a bit lacking in the hearing department.
Don't think I ever resolved it.
At one stage Fulcrum Suspension had the steering column out to do some experimenting with a new diagnostic tool they had and replaced the bush for me for free as compensation.
Pretty sure it was still there afterwards.
Having said all that, I'd be removing any easily accessible plastic shrouds and checking for any rub points. Maybe see if the noise is still there with them off.

I had a scratching/rubbing sound on an old Ford, it was the clockspring.
