I like the idea of a bonnet protector .. but having inherited one on a previous car that I bought 6 months old they are not so good in practice.. The problem is they trap leaves and a bit of grime and you would be taking them off every day or two to clean them...

However, yesterday I saw this on an older Nissan Pulsar and I'm tempted to do it to my Hybrid...

They have just spray painted the underside of the bonnet guard to match the car .. and it makes it blend in great.. Very simple but effective idea!!!

Yeah, but you would probably get away with cleaning it every few weeks instead of every few days...

I saw a red Nissan Pulsar SSS a few years back where someone had sprayed the inside of the headlight covers the same colour as the car and they just left two circles where the lights were .. made it look like the old escort RS...

what used to make me sad, was the tape was the same colour as the car, but it would fade after a few weeks/months to a bit lighter!

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
Well bugger me!! How simple is that for a solution to the "dirty leaves behind the bonnet protector" problem. It continually makes my little baby look. tacky

I'm off to Repco on the weekend to get some white spray paint.

Dumb female questions for the forum...Any clues as to what sort of paint will suit and what is the best way to apply it?

Try and get as close a match of white as you can there are hundreds of different whites.. You will need to spray the underside of the bonnet protector (not the top) and I would just clean it with metho then wash and dry it with a cloth that has not had any wax or polish on it.. Try the paint on a similar bit of plastic first if you can find something

If you know a panel beater or have a friend at one of the car accessory shops they might be able to advise you too.. Plastic primer spray is sometimes clear so you might be able to use that first to help the paint stick

most automotive paint shops can make you up a pressure pack can of paint using your paint code. in Melbourne there is a company called PAINT MOBILE that does it. I'm not sure what it costs though.

Last time I had that done was a bit over A$20 for a 400 ml can but was well worth it..(it was a while back)

yer those "made for you" cans are awesome! ive had a couple done up (for my first car)

sometimes you can luck out and get those tins from super cheap that are a match...

best way to apply would be what dazzler said! wipe it down so there is no oils on it, then use a brand new micro fiber cloth to wipe the metho residue off!

hang it somewhere where the over spray isnt going to go on everthing (dont do it near your car/house)

and light coats, a few light coats, then thats it, because its under something, it will turn out nice and glossy , but just tape up the side you dont want painted and the edges!!!
