Bonnet hinge siezed

While lifting the bonnet to do a little cleaning during a car wash I discovered that one hinge was so stiff that it caused the hinge/bonnet to flex so much that there was contact between the bonnet edge and the guard and a small chip of paint was knocked off. :faint:

Much WD40 was sprayed and finally it started to free up. I'm going to follow that up with some oil.

Maybe worth having a look at yours.

Thanks Pip,

I just had a look at mine.  Both were a little stiff (thankfully not seized).  I gave them a good working up and down and they seem to have freed up a bit.  I assume with mine is was just a build up of dirt and dust.

Mine always get a squirt of lube as does the bonnet catch when I do my weekly under bonnet fluid check / top-ups.

Maybe not Daz, its just I look after 6 cars for various family members so its in my interest to be able to open the bonnet without damaging anything, plus how long does it take to squirt some white grease where its needed? Compare that with the hassle of NOT doing it lol... jeez I even squirt a lil WD40 on the house door hinges & catches, only once a month though, they dont get exposed to driving rain & dust!

Don't open the bonnet very often, as there's usually nothing to do down there, except topping the washer fluid now and then.

Thanks for the info, Pip...  :goodjob2:

I have struts on the hybrid, don't know what is best to lubricate those with. Will do the CW from now on when I check the oil and water.  :goodjob:

I usually wipe the struts when open, with a cloth that has WD40 sprayed on it. I think there's an o ring seal inside for the gas and they operate quite smoothly when lubed this way.
