Any of our uk members having bonfire and fire works tonight?

I live near a park and they have a display.

As 99% of the fireworks are airborne i can watch from the bedroom window.

Don't worry about it Steve I have been called worse.

I am immune - having spent a lifetime being insulted by experts.

I can hear what seems to be the official Blackpool display though I am a fair way from where they hold it. Haven't heard any fireworks nearer tonight, maybe they've let them off in the last few days. Next door had lots on Sunday night.

A few years ago our local convenience store and local pub used to have a competition for best display. They both have flat roof areas and set off many hundreds, few yards from my house.

Bonfire Night or Cracker Night, is just a memory here, we had it killed off years ago in New South Wales, shops can't sell fireworks. but think West Australia they do & think in ACT they do. we lead a sheltered life

One thing I miss about the UK, as a kid, do the Guy Fawkes night/bonfire night on November 5.

Build the bonfire all year, then torch it and let off ye olde fireworks.   Are fireworks banned these days in UK, other than for approved events by and set off by licensed operators?  :blubber:

Still buy them in shops but the number of sellers is very small as they have to comply with allsorts of regs...

Very expensive and most just seem to pour out smoke with a bang at the end.

They sell them in supermarkets round 'ere, plus every autumn some empty shops get rebranded as firework shops for a month or two. They sell everything and don't our local cats know about it - all terrified for about a fortnight and then again at New Year.

Maybe you have some funny by-laws in Wirral ? :)

They are expensive though.

Same here, the pakistanis buy them for eide and other celebrations, the Chinese buy them for their new year and our mob buy them for Bonti night, new years eve and Christmas.   And everyone seems to just buy them for any old party.
They're a bloody nuisance really.
I s'pose if your brought up on the Wirral they'd be a daily event and you'd get immune to them

I played Guy Fawkes in a school play once.  It was a courtroom comedy.   We tried him and other historical figures. In his case we found him (me), guilty of FAILING to blow up Parliament House and thereby creating a public nuisance.  As the guilty verdict was read out I produced an impossibly   large bunger from under my cloak,  threw it at the judge and ran out through the audience,  laughing hysterically.

I think I had my first Scrumpy cider on a trip to Dorset in 2001 when doing the MSc at Shrivenham. I wasn't sure the solid bits were all apple but it didn't seem to matter.
