Alloy wheels

Hi
I am thinking to upgrade the standard wheels (185/65 R15) with 205/55 R16.
Any ideas ??? Also witch is the right offset with this dimmensions?

KKOM, mine has 205/55 R16 as stock factory items. (So yes, they will fit perfectly fine)

As for offset, it looks like 38 is the norm, but the to clear the front calipers you need an offset of 45. (I think, don't quote me on this, just yet)

Hi, the wheel offset for the i30 is 5/114.3 they are basically the same offset that you know for the ba-bf falcon and the magna's. i know for a fact that the magna's offset will fit the car cause i used to own a magna before the i30 and had 17x8 inch ROH Fury rims on it and took it off before i traded it in for the i30.

ive heard that the max width for the i30 is _ _ x 7.5 but i dunno if thats true due to the fact i has 17 x 8's on it.

I recall talking to my dealer about putting mag wheels on an SX when we were working out which model we would order. I was told that any change of rim and tyre size would also require alterations to the steering setup and the alignmnet. It was not just a matter of an upgrade.

hi after doing my rims and tyres the ow=nly thing that needed doing was a front and rear wheel alignment these are roughly 65 bux well thats how it cost me but twice that went to one place they didnt do a thing but still charged me the money took it to another place they did it and i felt the difference straight away. just make sure where you go cause some places are dickheads whilst other places will help you out.

Just passing on the info. They had no reason to give me a bum-steer. They actually suggested it as a viable option for me to consider as it would be cheaper to option up an SX than buy an SLX (if I wasn't fussed about some of the SLX interior options). As I understand it, it was a matter of adjustment to the geometry and calibration, not a component change.

The following are my thoughts
Makes sense to me I think about it as you have changed the way the vehicle sits on the road and will handle. Remember also, the power steering is configured to respond to speed and steering effort. I understand the calibration of the steering can be changed by Hyundai. Perhaps this calibration is different when different rims and tyres are fitted.

I had my stock SLX wheels upgraded to the ones on the SR as part of a deal I did once my white SLX diesel i30 arrived in Australia. The wheels had to be imported from Korea and took a further 2 months to get here. When they finally arrived and were put on by the dealer I recall him saying they had to do some type of alteration to the front end set up.......he didn't elaborate and I didn't really query it either so I'm not 100% sure of what was done or why, but I think he said a "bush" had to be replaced to compensate for the wider wheel. Anyway the result is great!!! Ride seems smoother and the tyres are quieter and have more grip. I have attached some pictures.

That does look good SM,

The SR wheels realy compliment the i30 well. Also, I believe that you are right about the adjustment for those wheels. I have heard that they use a bolted on spacer to have the wheel fit correctly on the hub.

Bob, didnt mean to shot the messenger. It just sounded strange that steering/suspension changes would be needed just because an aftermarket alloy is used. I have put alloys on just about every car i have ever owned and never had a problem doing so.
Anyway, hope you didnt take any offence.

I had 1 on a car sometime ago but not seen any in UK motor shops recently. I found it useful and allowed the window to be open without being uncomfortable.

Was it dealer provided or bought locally?

I have the same window "thingies" they are the stylevisors and are factory and have a little logo on them. if you guys like ill take a snappy of it. no extra crazy noise (mind you there were on when i got the car) still a quiet as ride inside, but the rain can sort of still get in when its pouring, good for not a absolute downpour tho

Like encountar says, they are called "style visors" and are a Hyundai accessory here in Australia.

I had the car a month before I fitted them and there has been no extra noise with the windows either up or down.

They allow the window to be down a little for ventilation while driving in light rain.

I also have the headlight covers and bonnet protector

The bonnet protector makes your car more worthy when you sell it, because theres not much damage from flying rocks.

) Sorry Hemmi just being a Smart A..

Not being mean but I've only had one bonnet protector (it came on a 2001 Nissan Pulsar I bought when it was only 6 months old) and I reckon they are a pain.

Like Hemmi says they might save the odd paint chip but they catch leaves and crap all the time and are hard to clean the inside of. From what I've seen getting clear film applied to the front 5 centimetres (2 inches) or so of the leading edge of the Bonnet looks and works better. (I.M.O.)

I agree Dazz,

Never been a fan of the bonnet protector. I have found as you say, they catch leaves and crap, also with time they turn yellow and become brittle and generally look sh_t. Headlight protectors i feel are certainley a good investment.

Will ask at dealer re: side protectors and style visors.

I like the idea of a FRIDGE on the back seat.

Hey Eye...

I had that brochure never noticed the "fridge" before. I bought a little square one (big enough for 6 standard cans) on special over here at an electrical shop for A$20 (it heats and cools!)

Reckon the genuine one would be pretty pricey!

The Chilled glove box sounds pretty nifty but in reality you'd have to freeze your toes off to chill anything (hence my purchase of a separate chiller)
