Title: Esp and rev issues on a 2007 i30 crdi 1.6
Post by: Andyn11 on August 26, 2018, 09:51:09
Hi first time poster and first time problem solver with 4 wheels for the past 10 years I've been riding motorcycles) my i30s engine management light came on yesterday and it doesn't want to rev unless done very slowly, it just kills the revs to 1k and the ESP off light comes on. The car is currently parked around the corner from my work in LHM

I've uploaded a youtube video slowing exactly what the car is doing

Know anyone who has a code reader? probably worth plugging in and seeing what has triggered at least.

This has Tyre sensors too? never knew FD came with that.

Has the brake pedal switch ever been replaced? The MIL could be on indicating an error code reported and from what I am reading ESP flashing at 2Hz indicates:

When the ESP control is operating. (Blinking - 2Hz) so that could be cutting the power

I don't know if the brake switch has ever been replaced, is it easy to do? And what do you mean about "the MIL"? If you're talking about the milage it is just low for its age

That orange engine symbol that's lit. Malfunction Indicator lamp. If it's never been done as far as I know there a permanent recall regardless of age to have it replaced for free.

some examples of scanntools, android phone app and bluetooth

Not sure if that's the cause but if it's never been done and it's free then get it done by Hyundai. all 3 of mine were doe free including one that had almost 400000K on it.

I'd borrow or find someone who can plug in and at least see what code has tripped.

This has Tyre sensors too? never knew FD came with that.

A much more common feature in Euro and European cars (might even be mandatory)

Alright so I'll need to find a garage that can plug it in... I'll have a search for local garages that can do that and hope it's nothing costly

got to start somewhere, rather expensive and difficult to throw parts at it without some diagnostics.

Took it to the mechanic across from my work today, he plugged it in and found 2 error messages for the throttle position sensor. He cleared the codes and recommended I run it until it happens again  I think I'll be changing it out anyway so I'm not stranded again.

Now the question of who can recommend a website or parts place to get one (location is West of Scotland)

Did  you write down the codes? Can you post these. TPS, I'm thinking that it'll be in the Pedal assembly I'd have to check be easy DIY if it is.

So clearing the code resolved it?

part number may be 32700-2H930 . would need to check using your VIN

Not sure if yours if with a (CPF) DPF or not

Found these codes listed, if it's one of these then it relates to the item below. Also give fault finding steps.

Couple of cheap ones on ebay, no idea what they's be new

P2123 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch D Circuit High Input
P2128 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch E Circuit High Input
P2138 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch D/E Voltage Correlation

So far clearing the code has solved it but I've only done about 7 miles to get home, I do plan on replacing whatever part is faulty.

I found a throttle position sensor which wasn't the full pedal assembly but also looked for that aswell. The sensor is a small plug in box and can range from £10 to £40+

Any advice on what part could cause the issue?

Part of getting the code read was to get the code numbers.

Need more info on that item and the real part number. Plus is that at the throttle body and / or is that applicable for Diesel motor setup?

Everything has been fine since the code was cleared lol its going in for work... A service and drop link to be replaced, oh and a tyre valve. I might get the throttle sensor replaced aswell but it's not giving any issue at the moment
