Lila our 2008 I30 Diesel is at the doctor overnight and due to have the glow plugs tested / replaced. She's been running rough on startup each day. Hopefully they will find something amiss.

However, they are also looking at a recall which came up on their computer. Apparently, check / fix the steering shaft universal joint.

Anyone else aware of this.

Me too mate, here is my note I sent to Hyundai UK who happen to be based in nearby Walsall lol!

Hello, It has come to my attention that in October a recall of 2008 FD version of i30 (my car included) was issued.
I have had no notification, the TSB number is HFE-12-61-P080-FD, Model i30 FD for Steering column universal joint bolts re-tightening.
Please can you advise urgently if I can take my vehicle (MJ08 EBB) along to my local Hyundai dealer (JT Hughes) for this inspection & work to be done, as I have a rattle / knock from my steering column when turning left over even the slightest rough surfaced road. I am concerned that my steering may fail.

Thanks in anticipation.

Do we know that it is just from 2008 and not earlier model's?

If so when from in 2008?

That is a coincidence as the biggest and most successful Hyundai Dealer in Australia (Based in Perth) is John Hughes ..

No mention of a loan car while we wait, bit disappointed about that.  :'(

No mention of that, but I will be picking the car up when it's done, so I'll check then.

OK...HCE-12-61-P080-FD for our Shambles... :-)
But at least Hy UK at Walsall knew what I meant.
They got in touch this morning, a lovely lady called Charlotte, she very pleasantly advised me that I should book my car in at JT Hughes ASAP and get the work done (not a Recall, but a Service request) at NO COST to me. :-) Well done Hyundai, well done Hyundai UK and Thankyou Charlotte!

I told her I am a Member of this Forum and that I'd mention her & Hy UK in a favourable way.

I mentioned that coincidence in this Forum before Dazz me old mucker! I cant find it now but I'm sure you could with your Admin resources lol!  :goodjob2:

I wasnt impressed by JT Hughes at my last Service, I paid £100 extra (over what my reliable Indy wanted) for the benefits of a Dealer service & got nothing from it, not even a car wash! So I hope they handle this a bit better as they are a new Hy Dealership.

Hi Zeke (neighbour lol) I found that under the dash on the drivers side,... up a bit there is a warm air pipe from the heater running a bit close to the dash metalwork. That plastic pipe wobbles about a lot and was clonking about on my car. I put some sponge between it and the dash mount and stopped that. This noise was one of the reasons the previous owner sold the car for, it had just 6,600 miles on it then and his dealer couldnt fix it! I just have the "turning left on rough ground" rattle to fix now, although it doesnt bother me too much if I'm honest.

Oh and my car is booked in now at JT Hughes, Hyundai UK had been in touch with them :-)

Hi FFoxy Thanks for that I will have a rummage about behind the dash when the weather warms up a bit.The knock I am getting sounds more like metal to metal though and seems to come from down behind the accelerator pedal the drop links and trackrod ends have been replaced without success. You probably already know this but the steering uj is easy to get to in the foot well and he just torqued it to 20 lbs. Good luck with your rattle.zeke

I think I probs tightened it myself in the past Zeke if Im honest. I'm just shoving the door open & hopefully trying to get Hy UK on-side for a fix to a Known Fault on the FD i30 in the steering wheel end of the column.

Something along the lines of "Well I still have the noise from my steering... could it be something else that I wasnt notified about...?"

I'm in Telford by the way fella

LILA UPDATE

Here we are Tuesday, the car's been at the dealers for 3 days and they don't know what's wrong. 4 Glow plugs fitted and no improvement. Suspect the injectors, all removed and sent away for testing, another 3 days.  :scared:

They finally gave me a Ford Fiesta manual to drive. 1200 k's, nice and quiet and a novelty to change gears again, but I wouldn't want to live with it permanently. The steering wheel and instruments are too "in your face" for me with a huge shelf forward to the front windscreen. The reflection on the screen was off putting even with polaroid glasses on. The engine is quite tractible though, pulls away easily in 2nd gear.

It's all rather complicated actually, the fiesta's a manual so I have to drive it  :whistler: Daughter is only auto licensed

@#Dazz, You're so right. It is very noticeable. MIL requires a walking frame to get around, checked the boot, no go.

No probs in the i30.  :goodjob2:

Hi Phil.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Does that mean you can get a drivers license for auto cars only...

...and then upgrade to manual ...
