Title: DIY i30 keys - programming
Post by: firemanpek on November 27, 2017, 00:51:55
I would like to program keys for my brothers Hyundai i30. I have previously and successfully programmed keys for a ford bf falcon ba falcon(ELM 327+forscan), and holden astra (OPCOM).
It seems the hardware required for the Hyundai is more much expensive. The ford was the cheapest for keys and obd device.
I was looking at the items on ebay at this
:link: GDS VCI with Trigger Module Flight Record Function for KIA & HYUNDAI Blue Color | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GDS-VCI-with-Trigger-Module-Flight-Record-Function-for-KIA-HYUNDAI-Blue-Color/182709717543?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49486%26meid%3D94b0caa6aa6849efb1feb4cb46d9fc6d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D382189952530&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m2219)
and this
:link: 2 x i30 HYUNDAI remote control key blank ready for programming + cutting | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-x-i30-HYUNDAI-remote-control-key-blank-ready-for-programming-cutting/221712610797?hash=item339f19f5ed:g:OC4AAOSwrklVNcou)
Has anyone ever done this to see if it works. I am guessing it will be about $350 in total for 2 keys, cut and programmed
My auto Electrician said if i don't want to buy the key programmer he will program the keys for $55 each making the total around $260 but then i dont have the benefits of the scan tool.
Any comments or help would be appreciated, thanks, Damien

Update. Hyundai won't give my brother the immobilizer codes says it is company policy and keys must be programmed by them for $150 per key plus cost of key

You need to go to a locksmith who is doing auto keys or to Hyundai. The policy is there for security reasons.

Not entirely true. People have done it. I have done it with other vehicles. I am interested in hearing from people who have done it. Thanks for the reply though all input is appreciated

Well good luck. Ive personally built several i30 keys using new and used fobs. I also use two Brisbane locksmiths, who specialise in this work, to create keys for stolen cars or to clone a 2nd key. Every time it has been a hassle to get codes from Hyundai. Some dealerships will not cooperate at all.

It's funny. With my astra I just took i.d and Rego papers to the Holden dealer, they gave me ALL the codes and service history including recalls for the vehicle for $20

Thank you for contacting Hyundai Customer Care and providing us an opportunity to respond.

Thanks, that's awesome, I'll get my brother to take that in with his Rego papers etc. Then they will have to give him the codes

This information can also be decoded from the VIN. There's programs out there but you will most likely have to pay someone to do  it.

well, I did not post that so you can simply print it out and rub someones nose in it. It is addressed to me and has a date stamp.

You could use the body of it minus my name and the date to hopefully further your cause

Of course, the point is to get the codes, not to say na,na,na,na you have to give it to me. I was thinking he should try another dealer. Mind you he just spent over $3000 on a service there just before he asked for the codes. You think they would have helped him out

If they won't come to the party then redraft a request / enquiry to Hyundai Australia along with whatever brownie points like service history and what you just mentioned. But get him to do it if he's the owner. then if they come back with the same positive response you have something in writing. Alternatively consumer affairs but I don't know lawfully where the line is.

  Déjà vu !

A 2011 FD CRDi arrived last night with no keys. Its been impounded and has the usual finger-print powder mess on the outside.
No damage or history of theft.
The doors remain locked but one rear window is wound down so I can get inside but the door locks wont respond.

On Monday, I will need a code so we shall see how cooperative the Brisbane Hyundai dealers are.  :phone1:

I'm getting conflicting information about whether you can actually use the GDS VCI interface to program keys or whether it will even work with the Australian Diesel car. If anyone can either give me a yes or no, or if they have used it successfully i would appreciate it. Thanks

I just found another post that seems to confirm that you can use it on australian diesel cars and can use it to program keys

For the all up price. DIY would not be worth it.

all good. ABC Locksmiths at Brendale, had a code in a hour and arrived with key cut. Car runs like a charm.  :victory:
For the all up price, DIY seems a waste of $s

OMG,  :crazy2: :faint: I guess considering your predicament it gets things happening . It'd be $450 + I expect at Hyundai.

SO you got key cut code and ECU PIN plus the key made up.

I got a quote here in port Stephens for $220 for 1 key and he said he will pass on the code for whatever it costs him. I guess he means if he has to use tokens to get the code. I would still love to diy it. I like the achievement and getting the diagnostic software is a bonus.

Yep that's what I got. That's the problem I had too.
Well you know what the weather is like at the moment Gerard  :crazy1:. We had 70mm dump on us Monday morning before the guy turned up.. The car was locked with two passenger windows down, luckily the tarps MOSTLY stayed in place.
I would have had to trailer the car to Hyundai :head_butt: and Im snowed under with pre-xmas work and stuff.

As it was, I had to be on hand to get the car off the transporter because the driver ( as are most towies) was too fat to get up on the truck and then squirm inside, the transmission was locked in 'Park'.
At least the obese cops at the pound had the same problem so only the outside was smothered in print powder.
And the car drives like a new one  :victory:  thanks for all your concern

Mate, There's a guy over this way who works like a drovers dog That I've used for both my Pickups. He does not have a tilt tray and moving the wreck with the front right wedged up a sloped driveway nearly killed him.

I think I got $300 worth of sweat out of him for $100 that day. I reckon next time I call him with a pickles pickup I'll just hear clunk as the phone
goes down.

Will be interested in your feed back. I think the unit is a Chinese knock off of a proven  Protool or similar unit.
Had a look at your links. As usual the ebay sellers are selling 'something' that they have bought on mass. The Chinglish description is so vague that it is useless.
Another link has one of our members unwittingly finding that he may be able to reset steering centre for EPS and ESP, (did you see that @tw2005 ?)
fireman you could have quite a useful tool if you can find the user manual for the original scanner.

Bit of an update, all the software is installed on a windows 7 laptop. Seems to be working.
I updated the firmware to the VCI. I think it is version 2.14 now.
I am waiting for my bro to drive here from Perth, he is driving via Darwin so he is certainly making a trip of it.
The seller gave me a link to make an account for the GDS software login, I havent tried creating one yet.
My brother ordered 2 blank unprogrammed keys from Amalgamated Locksmiths in Brisbane $85 pair, which have not arrived yet.
We are going to try to program them with the VCI and GDS, but we have a back up in case we cannot. The Auto electrician said he will program them for $55 each and Kloster Hyundai in Newcastle said they will give us the immobilizer codes if we provide rego papers and ID.
So it looks like which ever way we go we should have a working set of keys after Christmas.
I will keep whoever wants to know updated in case someone wants to go down the same path in the future. Merry xmas all be safe

Agreed. I had a bit to do with their Ford division about 12 years ago. Training them on tyres. Very committed to their craft.
