Title: Oil pressure lamp
Post by: Desmond Beattie on June 16, 2013, 13:00:38
Hi all.

Problem of oil pressure lamp taking 3 seconds to go out on initial start up.
I know this topic has been discussed before but I would like to know if this happens to all crdis or is it due to a faulty non return valve allowing oil to drain back into the sump. My dealer says it is normal but I am not convinced as on all other cars I have had the light went out immediately on start up. I have also noticed that it does not take too long after stopping before the same issue is there on restart. Usually if left for an hour. If this is a non return problem then there must be unusual wear taking place every time we start these cars

From memory when i had my crdi it varied depending on when i started the car.

After overnight lay up it would take longer than during day when in constant use.

Same with current petrol engine

Welcome Desmond, Can't recall our CRDi taking that long (but it was nearly 3 years ago we swapped it)  :Pout:

In my i30 too, they oil pressure lamp is always the last one to go out. It takes longer than the glow-plug-lamp for example. So I guess it's normal.
