Hi there.
I've just bought a 2008 crdi 1.6 with 67k miles on the clock.
Sometimes I have to force the gear stick into first and second gear, but other times its fine. It had the clutch replaced in February by the previous owner. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Cheers

Hi Sgbfc,

Is is mainly hard to shift when the car is cold then is ok after you have been drivining for a while. this can be caused by the oil used in the manual gearbox. Mine is 2011 6 speed and is a bit notchy in 1st & 2nd when cold in the morning and is fine after 10 to 20 km's. Just a thought.

Mine is exactly the same when cold.

Thing is, mine used to be silky until one day when she went in for an MOT & service, she came out like that. I queried whether they'd tightened any linkages or messed with the oil. The only relevant response they gave was that the gearbox oil level was "checked"... something that I strongly disbelieve.

That was in Feb 2011.

To this day I've still not checked the oil myself... I'm convinced it doesn't have enough for these cold mornings we get up North.

I'm not sure if it is just when it's cold. If it is the oil how I check and change it, without paying a garage?

Just like today, the 2nd day of summer.

What you need to do is to start the car . Then depress the clutch pedal and try to engage gear. If its difficult to get it then try the same but hold the clutch in for at least 5 secs before engaging gear- Is there a difference??

I've tried holding the clutch down for 5 seconds a couple of times today, sometimes it works like a charm and others it I'd still the same.
