I finally got around to fitting this handy litte mod today.
A really simple "plug & play" job, the relay plugs straight in line between the existing wiring loom and door control panel.
It has the choice of two modes....
1. Mirrors fold in four seconds after ignition turned off and open when ignition started.
2. Mirrors close/open when locking/unlocking using the remote.
I have gone with the first option as the second option required cutting into the wiring loom to connect the green & grey wires you see in the photo.

I didn't think the standard mirrors had motors fitted to fold them in. Am I wrong or have you replaced the mirrors as well?

I have the CW with the folding mirrors, Tazmamiac.

Sounds like a nifty idea Terry I might see if Trish will give me permission to do that :D

Good idea, Dazzler. Happy sister wife, happy life. :D

Top mod.
So are you saying that your mirrors folded in manually and you have now made threm automatic?
What is the difference between the cw mirrors and the SLX mirrors then? :undecided:
-
Dave, the CW has folding mirrors operated manually by a push button switch one the driver's door switch panel.
The auto relay simply activates the mirrors via ignition off (close) ignition on (open).
Basically, I'm a lazy b....
-
:Pout: :Pout: :Pout:
That's not fair.
I want one. :foottap:
-
Good one, UM... :goodjob:
-
very good and usefull modification!!!
-
I must admit I'd have been tempted to install something like this mod, a few years ago when Fergie was much newer, but the odd occasion when the car is frozen solid in the morning I'd be very wary of having the motor struggle to overcome the ice when trying to extend the mirrors from closed.
-
Thats a good mod UM. :goodjob:

We don't tolerate that kind of thing, in this country sir.

We do down here. Probably have a frozen car, not just frost, about a dozen times or more a year.
-
We had iced up windscreens this morning... :)

Thanks for the support guys, :( I was having a dig at Shambles
-
You're welcome! :D

Do you have a part number?

Do you have a part number?
No he doesn't, but his "use-by date" is well and truly expired.

That is a cruel, but fair comment......I like it....

Hi UM,
Is the relay something I can buy off ebay for plug & Play.
I can do plug & play but not so great on building electronics.
Thanks
Michael

Can you still fold the mirrors with the manual button - to enable you to fold them with the engine running?
I need to fold mine to get through the garage door.

I feel like that when I walk through the front door. :)

In answer to the posted questions.
1. No part number as it's not a genuine Hyundai part.
2. Yes, I brought it on eBay. Will try and find the seller and post the link.
3. Yes, mirrors can be folded using the existing switch while the ignition is on.
Here's the eBay link

Hey,
I also ordered the relay. For those who are interested: 55 $ on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/230919550396?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D230919550396%26_rdc%3D1) (free economy shipping or + 3 $ for standard shipping).
I'm still waiting for it. Bought three days ago.
-
:goodjob:
-
Possibly the only other modification I would consider.. excellent find and post :)
-
It's done :happydance:
I had to wait still a long time, because the module was here in Germany at customs for three weeks.
It was easy to install. I decided to fold the mirrors by using the remote. It works and took 30 minutes.
I love it!

Excellent! :goodjob:

Good work.
Now, where are the "step by step" piccies? :P
I decided to fold the mirrors by using the remote.
That would be my choice too, as it would serve as a double-check that you'd locked your car, when you're walking away from it.
-
Does anyone know if this would fit the latest i30 model? Seems really good.
-
Way to go, Cewi... :goodjob2:
Nice feature.

Unfortunately it doesn't guarantee that all doors were really locked: The mirrors also fold when one or more doors are opened. So the folded mirrors don't demonstrate, that the alarm system ist turned on... :'(
-
that the alarm system ist turned on... :'(
A-ha. Ein bischen Deutch hier..
Sorry Cewi, couldn't resist the temptation.. :snigger:

Anybody knows how you install this mod?
Bfc, have a look at the first post in this thread. It's very simple. By far the best mod I've done.
It only works on existing folding mirrors.

Aaarrgghh I didn't see the first page. :blubber: :blubber:
I will change the door handle, so I will be ordering also this.
Two birds with one shot!! :victory: :victory:
Do you know if I add this, if I still can close the mirrors manually with the button?
-
Yes, the manual close/open feature using the switch will still work.
-
Can we install this mod on the GD's
-
Can we install this mod on the GD's
Villa, I have no idea. I'd contact the supplier of the mod kit and ask them. :goodjob2:
-
I've found a kit that fits an 11-13 elantra there basically the same car as the i30 aren't they
-
I can't answer that one, Villa. There may be someone more knowledgeable than me on the forum who is able to.
-
Does anybody have any idea which wires I'm meant to connect the green and grey wires to so that the mirrors will fold in and out when locking and unlocking
Cheers
-
Never mind I managed to sort it out. I installed this mod on my GD trophy if anyone else is interested there is a kit available

If you Google search for " translate text with phone app " you'll find some apps that do what you want for apple - android and windows phones, ideally it would still be easier with an English written paper in front of you though.
If you bought through shark racing you could also ask them for an English copy of the instructions.
-
@Joe, I found some English instructions for you on ebay KMP Trade site :link: Side Mirror Auto Lock Folding System Connector FOR Hyundai 2012 2015 I30 GT | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Side-Mirror-Auto-Lock-Folding-System-CONNECTOR-HYUNDAI-2012-2015-i30-gt-/261485300434?hash=item3ce1bd0ad2)

cheers for that Craig, mine is more like the one you link from Shark racing.
I just need to workout which leads are the lock, unlock, door pin in the vehicle.
Might just take a bit more time to trace them back.
-
Though the shark one is a genuine Mobis part the wiring should be identical I would think :undecided:
red = power +
green = door lock connect
gray = door open connect
-
This looks like a nice bit of kit pity it doesn't include mirrors
:link: Window X - Forte, Forte Koup, Morning, Pride, i30, Veloster, Tucson IX - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hOZiLVHYko)
-
Seems to include mirrors (unless you didn't mean mirror control?)
Nice kit indeed.
-
does look good, however the video made be think how little I use my windows, ( well I do look through them ) I mean up and down. When I have driven with my windows down, the wind noise in the cabin is unbearable in the i30. I do occasionally drive with my windows down in my work car (Prado) and it's quite pleasant but it windows up for the i30 for me.
-
Well I'm a bugger not closing the windows when I jump out of the car. I have them wind deflectors fitted and I always have the window cracked a little, now on my other car if I forget to close the window I would stick the key into the door lock and turn the key and hold it for a few seconds and it would close the window instead of putting the key back into the ignition and operating the switch. Just tried on the i30 and it doesn't do it :(
I wonder if you could tap into the door mirror wiring so you could have window closure but there again it might put the windows down when you unlock
-
Sorry I haven't been on for a while. If you still need any help with this let me know.
