Title: Auto folding side mirror relay fitted.
Post by: Ugly Mongrel on July 07, 2012, 07:07:18
I finally got around to fitting this handy litte mod today.

A really simple "plug & play" job, the relay plugs straight in line between the existing wiring loom and door control panel.

It has the choice of two modes....
1. Mirrors fold in four seconds after ignition turned off and open when ignition started.
2. Mirrors close/open when locking/unlocking using the remote.

I have gone with the first option as the second option required cutting into the wiring loom to connect the green & grey wires you see in the photo.

I didn't think the standard mirrors had motors fitted to fold them in. Am I wrong or have you replaced the mirrors as well?

I have the CW with the folding mirrors, Tazmamiac.

Top mod.
So are you saying that your mirrors folded in manually and you have now made threm automatic?
What is the difference between the cw mirrors and the SLX mirrors then?  :undecided:

Post by: Ugly Mongrel on July 07, 2012, 08:42:34
Dave, the CW has folding mirrors operated manually by a push button switch one the driver's door switch panel.

The auto relay simply activates the mirrors via ignition off (close) ignition on (open).
Basically, I'm a lazy b....

I must admit I'd have been tempted to install something like this mod, a few years ago when Fergie was much newer, but the odd occasion when the car is frozen solid in the morning I'd be very wary of having the motor struggle to overcome the ice when trying to extend the mirrors from closed.

Hi UM,
Is the relay something I can buy off ebay for plug & Play.
I can do plug & play but not so great on building electronics.
Thanks

Can you still fold the mirrors with the manual button - to enable you to fold them with the engine running?

I need to fold mine to get through the garage door.

In answer to the posted questions.

1. No part number as it's not a genuine Hyundai part.
2. Yes, I brought it on eBay. Will try and find the seller and post the link.
3. Yes, mirrors can be folded using the existing switch while the ignition is on.

Here's the eBay link

Hey,

I also ordered the relay. For those who are interested: 55 $  on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/230919550396?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D230919550396%26_rdc%3D1) (free economy shipping or + 3 $ for standard shipping).
I'm still waiting for it. Bought three days ago.

It's done :happydance:

I had to wait still a long time, because the module was here in Germany at customs for three weeks.
It was easy to install. I decided to fold the mirrors by using the remote. It works and took 30 minutes.

I love it!

Good work.

Now, where are the "step by step" piccies? :P

I decided to fold the mirrors by using the remote.

That would be my choice too, as it would serve as a double-check that you'd locked your car, when you're walking away from it.

Unfortunately it doesn't guarantee that all doors were really locked: The mirrors also fold when one or more doors are opened. So the folded mirrors don't demonstrate, that the alarm system ist turned on...  :'(

Bfc,  have a look at the first post in this thread. It's very simple.  By far the best mod I've done.

It only works on existing folding mirrors.

If you Google search for " translate text with phone app " you'll find some apps that do what you want for apple - android and windows phones, ideally it would still be easier with an English written paper in front of you though.

If you bought through shark racing you could also ask them for an English copy of the instructions.

does look good, however the video made be think how little I use my windows, ( well I do look through them ) I mean up and down. When I have driven with my windows down, the wind noise in the cabin is unbearable in the i30. I do occasionally drive with my windows down in my work car (Prado) and it's quite pleasant but it windows up for the i30 for me.
Title: Re: Auto folding side mirror relay fitted.
Post by: Johnno on May 14, 2015, 12:37:04
Well I'm a bugger not closing the windows when I jump out of the car. I have them wind deflectors fitted and I always have the window cracked a little, now on my other car if I forget to close the window I would stick the key into the door lock and turn the key and hold it for a few seconds and it would close the window instead of putting the key back into the ignition and operating the switch. Just tried on the i30 and it doesn't do it  :(

I wonder if you could tap into the door mirror wiring so you could have window closure but there again it might put the windows down when you unlock
