Hello, i'm new here.

My GF just bought a used i30 (jun 2010, style, 1.6 CVVT Blue-drive, manual transmition) (57000 km). The car is in excellent condition - like new. The previous owner did say he has had issues with the clutch making a hi-pitch noise when reversing, but he got it replaced under warranty in 2012 (for a stronger one).

The issue is that in the morning - after the car has been idle for around 8 hours, it's very hard to shift to 1st or reverse. I will test some more, but i think the issue happens only when the car is not moving. After driving for a bit, it's smooth, with no noticeable problems.

Has anyone else had this type of issues?

Thank you and best regards, Raq

My 2008 model has been just like that since February 2012, when it had a service and they "tightened the gear linkage cables".

They do loosen up again, eventually.

Thanks Shambles.

As I understand, the car was at service 2 weeks ago, so it is possible they've tightened those cables. Are you saying that you have had this issue since 2012? Did you notice any improvement from month to month?

It took around a year for my linkage cables to "soften up", but even now (when it's really cold outside) it's harder to select 1st or reverse (but not as bad as it was back then) than (say) 2nd or 3rd. Once warmed up it's fine as you said.

Of course, when queried, the dealership simply stated that they'd done everything by the book, which must have included a check & adjustment of the cables.

I had similar when I had my accent.

They tried altering the linkage but this never really worked.

They changed the gear box oil and it was OK.

May be it is the oil which may be thicker when cold and as it warms up it become more liquid and eases the change.

May be worth checking oil in the box and putting in an approved lighter type (viscosity)

Then I will check the oil too. Thank you both for replying, much appreciated. I'll be sure to keep you updated.

What is the morning temperature at your location, Raqun

I too, think oil temp is involved.
